I am looking at 2 1911's right now to add to the collection but the bank account says I can only get one.
Kimber Compact CDP II
or
series 80 Colt Commander
I have a Kimber Compact Stainless and love it but the CDP is running $200 more than the Colt. I'm just not real familiar with the colts.
What does the knowledgable audience out there have to say????

I also have a Kimber Compact Stainless (Series I), and absolutely love it. Given your particular situation though, I may opt to get the Colt. Not sure why, but I have reached that stage in life that I want as many quality labels in the stable as possible.

I think that may be where I am at too. Want a new toy, something a bit different than what I already have. Decisions, decisions.......

Not to throw a wrench in the works, but how about a Springfield?
IMO I would definitely rank Kimber above the Colt as far as 1911's go (which as far as I know is the only model that they have in common). I would rank Springfield above both, however. Don't get me wrong, I own several Kimbers and I like them all, but Springfield makes a great pistol and the customer service is awesome.
Just my .02.
Congrats on the new pistol, whichever you decide.

I'm a current Kimber owner, but my next purchase will be a springer....
If you already have the compact why not try the Pro CDP?

+2 on the Colt (or Springer).
I was a Kimber owner. I had several. I no longer have any of them.
I also have Springer's, Colt's, Brown's and Wilson's.
I liked the Kimbers and they are fine guns, but I detest the full length guide rods and the requirement to use a paperclip or other tool to take them down and reassemble them. You cannot replace the FLGR in Kimbers because they do not have a barrel bushing.
On my Springer's/Colt's/Brown's and Wilson's, any that came with a FLGR (one or two piece) I have replaced them with standard GI Length Guide Rods and standard Plugs. I can take these down and reassemble them without the need for any tools.
I will never buy another 1911 pistol that I cannot change to the standard Browning Design with GI length Guide Rods and Plugs.
