Nice oldie but goody. I do not own one YET. Did you order one form J and G sales off the web? There have been a few come across the board here that have tempted me, but I held off and bought ammo instead. I think now its time to get my hand on one of my own. Are you going to shoot the surplus corrosive ammo through it or find better ammo? I like the fact its a cheap rifle to purchase and a cheap rifle to shoot of you shoot the corrosive stuff, but I don't know if I want to clean my rifle like what is necessary to prevent the damage from the corrosive ammo.

I still have a few 91/30 Hex Mosins available!
I heard that
'Ed's Red' Bore Cleaner is good for killing the corrosive stuff too
I ran 4 patches w/ windex thru the bore, 1 wet, 1 dry, then lubed/oiled and got NO rust or problems!
Let me know if you are still interested in a Mosin

I did get it off J&G and I had some problems, but I got a PERSON off the main number for their business when I called...that goes a long way! They were also very helpful so they get my business again as far as I am concerned. I plan on shooting surplus mainly when plinking, but Cabela's carrys some non-corrosive soft points and this thing was made to kill hogs as far as i am concerened

Sure, I could take em out with my scoped .270, but where is the fun in that! But cleaning the corrosive ammo is not bad. You can take the really easy way out by buying Hoppes #9 and clean regularly (which is what I use anyway) or just run a patch of windex through the barrel and wipe down the bolt with windex, then clean as normal with whatever you like. I was in the same place as you before I bought mine worried about what corrosive ammo would do to the gun, but everything I read says that as long as you don't let it sit in the barrel/bolt for a long time then you won't have any worries. But worse case scenario, I have to buy another gun for $120! I don't like wasting money so I will take care of this one but I wouldn't be heart broken if something happened to it. Now my Yugo and AK would be a different story! I say order a Mosin, a couple spam cans, Hoppes #9, and go to town!

Good to hear. I still plan on getting one, but I have 3 guns I own that i have not put enough rounds through. An AR, a 1911, and a new custom AK I took delivery of Tuesday night. I have plenty of ammo for all, just no time to shoot. The Mosin is next on the list of tools to acquire for sure. Have fun and be safe.

I got one finally. It looks good, I have plenty of ammo for it, but have yet to shoot it. It is on my list of stuff to shoot, but it is down the list a ways...

Do NOT trust any ammo that says its NON-corrosive! Otherwise after just a few days your bore will be fuzzy from all the rust (I found out the hard way)
The quickest/easiest method for cleaning a Mosin after firing corrosive ammo
A. Alternate a patch soaked in Windex and a dry patch 4x
B. I then alternate a bore brush doused with copper bore cleaner and a dry patch 4x
C. Then a patch soaked with clp and dry patch 4x
Wipe the bolt down with a patch soaked in Windex, then wipe down with CLP done...takes about 10 min
Whatever you do...after you fire that rifle...please run a water soaked patch 4x thru the bore or it WILL rust up!!!

I don't know if this would help, but you can raise any dents out of the stock with a wet teabag (or wet cloth) by placing it over the dent and using a regular clothes-iron on high to iron it

i actually learned that while refinishing the stock on my Romanian AK. Problem is I forgot the process I used because I only did the whole process once so if you have any good refinishing links that would be awesome. At the range it proved to be a decent shooter, but I will be free-floating the barrel with some light sanding/shim stock, shimming up the trigger, and adjusting the sight a bit. It shoots consistently to the left. Whew....i have a love hate relationship with project guns
