Newbie here,

I am in the waiting room for my CHL but am trying to decide on a handgun.

I think I am going to go with the Springfield XDM 9mm and a Glock 26.

Does anyone have any experince/own the new Springfield either in the 9mm or the S&W .40? Would this be fesiable to use a concealed carry, its a 19+ 1 round. I know the Glock would be no problem.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Before you spend the extra money for a XDM, I'd suggest you check out a XD 9 SC or a XD .45 Compact - if you can find one.

I don't know where you'd need the 19 rd. mag except at the range. If you ever do get in a gunfight, it'll probably be over by 10 rounds each side - one way or another.

My 2¢ worth. :tiphat:

EDIT:

As a rule, the 9mm and the .45 acp ammo is more economical and more readily available.

I have and carry an XD40SC. I find that the weight of this pistol is tolerable but at times, does get a little heavy (read that as you know its there). Some choose to offset the one-sided weight with extra mags on the weak side. Sounds logical but I haven't tried it.

To get to my point, I typically carry 11 rounds and can't imagine almost doubling that (10+1) in addition to the extra weight of the larger pistol. I now, others carry heavy pistols and extra mags, and folding knifes, and handcuffs, etc., etc.; but, it's not for me.

Before you decide, it might be interesting to put 20 rounds in your pocket and carry it around for a couple of days. See if you can tolerate it and go from there.

Good luck on your decision. You have narrowed your choice to two very fine pistols.

I agree, I probably won't need all 19 rd. The S&W .40 is a 16 rd mag. Just that I shot with the XDm and found it very comfortable with to shoot with especially with the new grips. Another option was considering is the Glock 22. The XDm or the Glock 22 would be more of a winter type of carry where as the Glock 26 would be more fesiable to carry most of the time for me.

bpet - that sucker does weigh quite a bit 2lb (32 oz) empty but from what I've reading in magazines and forums, I'm still a noob, that sometimes bigger is better (thats what she said!! :biggrinjester: )

I switch carries between my XD40 and Glock 27. I notice the XD more, but prefer the way that it shoots, though the Glock is a close second.

Just a thought, choose a shooting platform and stay with it as much as possible. If you are thinking of carrying a different gun in warm weather then in cold weather, it is good to have the same make.

I have a xd .45 and the XDM9mm. Both are great guns but I find the XDM a little big to carry comfortably. The compact models make it a little bettter for ever day carry. With that said, I carry my XD .45 4" service everyday and it does not bother me at all, just a little shorter than the XDM but it does make a difference.
