NRA Director Voting

Just got my Ballot Package for the 2009 elections.
I only recognize one name on the list - Joseph P. DeBergalis Jr.
He's a good guy I met at the NRA dinners when I lived in Buffalo.
Does anyone know anything about the other nominees?
Good or bad?
I just don't want to vote for another Joaquin Jackson.

It'd be nice if we could get NRA directors to answer a questionnaire something like the below.:
(Shamelessly stolen from
DavidCodrea)
David Codrea wrote:
1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges a birthright of all Americans?
2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?
3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional.
4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional.
5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont?
6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern?
7. Do you support or oppose Project Exile, and do you agree with current NRA management’s call to “enforce existing gun laws”?
8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms? Why?
9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed?
10. If elected to the NRA Board, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions? How?
11. Do you agree with the way NRA assigns political ratings? If not, what would you change and why? Who would you have given a different rating to, what would it been and why?
12. Do you disagree with any policies being promulgated by NRA management? What is your biggest area of dissent? Have you offered superior alternatives and worked with others to implement them?
13. Have you ever publicly spoken out against an NRA management position because you thought it was wrong? When, where, and what were the results?
14. What reforms do you think are needed at NRA and why?
15. If elected, how will you inform members of your performance and voting record? Will you let us know when you dissent and why?
16. Do you agree with Executive VP Wayne LaPierre, who stated: "[W]e believe in absolutely gun-free, zero-tolerance, totally safe schools. That means no guns in America's schools, period ... with the rare exception of law enforcement officers or trained security personnel"? If not, what do you plan to do about it?
17. Will you have an "open door" policy letting NRA members know how to contact you with their concerns?
18. Would you consider engaging in and recommending civil disobedience over a gun law? If "Yes," give some examples of what your line in the sand would be.

Just want to bump this back up to everyone's attention.
Your ballot for NRA directors must be received by April 26 to be counted.
I have no way to substantiate it, but I've been told that only a small percentage of NRA members eligible to vote actually do so. If that's true, it's a shame. I view that as similar to not bothering to vote in local elections.
The summary bios in the March issues of
American Rifleman,
American Hunter, and
Americas 1st Freedom definitely help, but you can take a little time to practice your Google-fu and find more information about the nominees.
I'm not endorsing anyone in particular, but some of the names should jump out at you. For example, Steve Hornady (president of Hornady Manufacturing and youngest son of the company's founder, Joyce Hornady); Ronnie Barrett (creator in 1982 of the famous Barrett .50 caliber rifle and CEO of Barrett Firearms); Owen (Buz) Mills (president of Gunsite Academy); Bob Brown (distinguished military career and founder/publisher of
Soldier of Fortune magazine); John Milius (one of Hollywood's minority, like Tom Selleck, that supports RKBA; written and/or directed films like
Jeremiah Johnson,
Dirty Harry,
Apocalypse Now,
Red Dawn, and many others); and John Sigler (current NRA president).
There's no Charles Cotton to vote for this year

but there are a number of very strong candidates, nonetheless.

I got my ballot a couple days ago and am doing my research on all these names.
One thing that seems odd is that there are 31 names on the ballot, and you can cast votes for 26 of them. They may as well have made it so that you just select the five that you DON'T want.
I agree that a questionnaire for all the candidates would be incredibly useful, and would certainly increase the numbers of ballots cast.

My problem with voting is I just moved a couple of months back, while the Forwarding was in place. Since then, I cannot recall receiving the magazine with the ballot in it.
I'm an Endowed Life Member, and really want to vote. Do any of you guys know how I can get a new ballot before the deadline?

Wish I had specific advice, but I don't. Considering how close the deadline is, I'd call NRA HQ tomorrow morning and get information from the source.
