Prayer for a young friend and her fiance - 2ND UPDATE

I'd like to ask for some prayers for another friend of ours in the church....

Cora is a 19-yr-old young lady who's made some wrong choices in her life, but she recognizes them and turned her life around. I had the privilege of assisting at her baptism almost 2 years ago, and the joy of watching her grow and blossom in the Lord ever since.

She's engaged to a 20-yr-old young man who treats her like she's the most precious person in the world to him. He's from Mexico, but he's a legal resident here. They seem to be very good for each other, and he treats her young daughter like his own little princess.

His mom, however, is completely against the marriage. She's accustomed to having him around to take care of the house and his brother (a teenager) for her while she works or is out of the house. Because of his family situation, it's been difficult for him to say no or keep his mom from taking advantage of him.

He went with his mom over to Juarez yesterday, ostensibly to run some errands, and she left him stranded there without his passport, visa, ID or funds to remedy the situation. He can't cross back into the US without those documents.

He and Cora were supposed to be married today....

Please keep this young couple in your prayers.

UPDATE 10 MARCH

I just got off the phone with Cora. Jesus (her fiance) was finally able to get in touch with her today! He's stranded at his dad's house in Chihuahua, and his dad doesn't want to help him get back to Texas either. Cora has spoken with the local Sheriff's department about retrieving Jesus' IDs and things from his mom's, and was told that she'd need a Power of Attorney from Jesus giving her authorization to act on his behalf, before they could go with her to help enforce the retrieval. If she can get a ride to Chihuahua, she can get him to sign the POA and get him back at least to Juarez to wait while his papers are recovered.

So - here's the request, for those of you who are familiar with the law - Where can we find a Power of Attorney that has the proper wording to grant Cora authorization (and the Sheriffs permission) to act on Jesus' behalf in retrieving his IDs and personal belongings? Is there a form available that can be downloaded, with "fill-in-the-blank" capability? If possible, one that doesn't require notarization to be enforceable in the US? (notaries can be.... expensive.... in Mexico - and I don't know if a Mexican notary would be recognized here.)

Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome.

Please keep praying for this young couple. They've still got some obstacles to overcome - but at least now we know Jesus is OK!

UPDATE 16 MARCH

Good news!

We just got a phone call from Cora.... and Jesus! he was finally able to get from his dad's house in Chihuahua to his grandmother's in Juarez, and the grandmother assisted in getting him back across the border into El Paso today.

He's currently at the apartment with Cora and her mom, safe, and very happy to be back.

Thank you all for your prayers - please continue to pray that God will watch over this young couple, and that He will continue to be glorified in their lives.

+1

What a terrible situation. The young man must be terribly conflicted due to his mother's behavior.

This is a very hard situation for both of them and the mother. I pray for the Lord's intervention and blessings upon each of those involved and work out a way for this young couple, and the mother.

Jesus is 20 years old. What is his momma doing with his documents and his money? Is there any chance that just maybe, "mother and father know best"?

Reasonable questions, for the amount of info.... needless to say, there are a lot of details that I'm not willing, or authorized, to post on a public forum.

What I can say is this:
Jesus and Cora have been in extensive counseling, with a Christian minister - an older man, who is aware of all of the details and whose experience and discernment in such matters far surpasses our own.
This young couple has done everything that could be reasonably expected, and then some, to accommodate Jesus' mom's demands, short of calling off the wedding.
Cora's mom is in favor of the match.
Jesus and Cora are, as you say, adults. Had either or both been minors, the parents on either side would have every right and responsibility to step in and delay or dissolve the relationship.
Had Jesus' mom's actions been reasonable, I would be far more sympathetic (I have a grown son as well). But lying to her son to get him south of the border, then taking his wallet while he napped at his dad's house (most LEOs I know would call that theft), leaving him with only the clothes on his back, and calling his fiancee to laugh at her, are hardly reasonable actions. And these actions are unfortunately all too consistent with her behavior over this past year.

If nothing else, pray that God's will be done in this young couple's lives, and that He will be glorified no matter what the outcome - whether He wants them together, or apart.

I'm sorry I don't know the law and/or can't answer the question you have regarding the forms needed to get the PoA but I will definitely be praying for both families. :(

That is wonderful news!! I am glad that things worked out to where Jesus is back where he wants to be. I pray for this young couple that God would give them guidance and wisdom, I pray that they will put God before all things and live in His blessing.
