I am planning to go hunt pigs on my friend's lease. He leased a land and the owner allows him to bring guests. Do I need a hunting license?

A hunting license is required of any person, regardless of age, who hunts any animal, bird, frog or turtle in this state (except furbearers, if the hunter possesses a trapper's license). No license is required for nuisance fur-bearing animals, depredating hogs or coyotes (see below). Non-residents under 17 years of age may purchase and hunt with the Youth Hunting License (Type 169).

It doesn't look like you need one.

"depredating hogs" is the key word. If I am not mistaken you can kill them if they are depredating on the land in question otherwise you have to have the license to hunt them. I know a fellow who got a nice big ticket for hunting hogs w/o a license over near plains texas. My advice: get the license, it doesn't cost that much. If you haven't taken hunters ed. you can get the one time deferral and hunt with a licensed hunter present.

Theres your answer. As far as depredation goes, that exception applies only to the land owner or his "agents" that have express permission to do so.
Get a hunting license and be safe. "Depredation" might be a hard thing to prove....and will most certainly be done before a judge or JP. But, if you think $30.00 outweighs your time, inconvenience and possible fines, go for it.

It's not the money i am concerned about. It's the load of personal information required by the hunting license.
Driver's license
home address
phone number
SSN
passport
DOB
The only things missing are DNA sample and fingerprints.

Well, let's see, if you have a drivers license and a CHL, the state already has everything they collect for the hunting license, so what's the big deal??

Are you in the witness protection program? If you have existed and breathed air, the State already knows who you are. Born in a hospital..they got ya. Have a social security card...they got ya..You went to school?? They got ya. You have a checking account??? they got ya. I don't think their is any way to stay off the radar these days. I would get the license. besides avoiding confrontation with the man, your license money goes to helping support the sport of hunting in Texas.

depredation
dep·re·da·tion (dep′rə dā′s̸hən)
noun
the act or an instance of robbing, plundering, or laying waste
------------------------------------------------------
Now, the way I see it is that if I am hunting on my own private land against a furry animal of this type that leaves smelly waste piles, travels in herds, rutts up my fire lanes and causes those trails to become hazardous to my travels on my property...
I think I would not mind much culling an entire herd if I had the chance...If $30 keeps me out of trouble, even though I got the other angles covered...I'm hip to it...
The only thing I have a problem with is it just seems like a big waste of ammo...I'm thinking I'd like to install some sharp skewers on the front of the 4-wheelers and go riding around sticking little piggy's, and the big ones too...Road Warrior style...
All kidding aside...No really...The property next to ours just clear-cutted their place and are offering no cover for any wildlife in our area...Since ours is pretty covered, the conventional wisdom is the feral hogs that roam that part of the county will find refuge inside our fenceline...
Seems like we've been stimulated with a lot of pork...

Me and a few friends hunt Feral Hogs, our philosophy regarding them is as follows:
Feral hogs are the worlds largest cockroach. They eat everything, "poop" everywhere, and reproduce faster than you can kill them. At least one local game warden feels the same after finding a Doe and her fawn eaten where she bedded down to have it. They will chase cattle off of their feed, and have been known to wipe out coyote populations and peanut crops seemingly over night.

They are indeed a scourge.
"Four legged Fire Ants" in my opinion.
Perfectly worthless and here to stay!

That image is going to be in my mind all day long. I love it! I'm imagining a half dozen piglets skewered and hanging on the front of your ride, legs kicking and mouths screaming as you tear through your woods.

Is there reciprocity with my Colorado Hunter Safety Certification?

In a word, Yes. You will have to carry a copy of your Hunter Safety Certification with you and your license while hunting though (Texas Hunter's Safety Certifications will often appear listed on the license itself).
