Hello,

I am VERY unfamiliar with Night Vision but I wanted to get a nice scope for hunting yotes. I have been looking at the ATN PS22 but wondered if there is anyone here that has experience with night vision scopes and if so, if you could let me know if that would be a good unit or if there are better ones I should go with. I'm looking at 100-200 yard shots using a .243. Price range I would like to stick with is under $2500.00

That seems like a lot of money to hunt yotes. Either you have a bad yote problem or its darn fun. Would night vision goggles be any cheaper or useful and still allow you to see through a scope?

I know little of them. That said, I would look for a third generation or later. If possible you may want to save more money and get a fourth but that is just my take on them. From what I have seen and heard, don't own one, most will not be visible to that distance unless you have a good moon. Most if not all of them rely on IR lights so you may be able to supplement with a good IR spotlight. I was looking into getting one but quality and price have me hesitant. I noticed some are day/night but, like I said, I know little about the things. I may get one in the future for hog hunting so let us know what you find out.

Night Vision works best with a better moon (IE Full moon), without the full moon you will want more and better IR lights to illuminate the area you are shooting (An IR spot light is a good/recommended investment for Gen 1 and 2 scopes). For shooting 100 to 200 yards you will want gen 3 or better so you can actually see what you are shooting at. For hunting feral pigs I occasionally use a gen 1 but we are talking ranges of 50 yards or less. For my purposes a good (read high quality) optic is just as good under a full moon as an older generation nv scope so the NV scope really isn't used under full moon conditions and my nv scope only gets play when my buddy brings his IR spotlight. My Gen 1 NV binoculars on the other hand get a lot more use as they work well for quickly scouting a field before switching to illumination (IR or visible). Basically what I am saying is buy the latest generation you can afford, image quality is key as we have been known to stalk cattle on our hog hunting land only to close on them and realize they were larger/closer than we thought because of the gen 1 gear).

Thanks everyone. After testing a few different I decided on ATNP22-HPT due to I can use it on multiple guns. It's a day/night system and just attaches to the front of the scope. Now wish me luck on it. :) Once I get it and get a chance to play with it I will post a small review.

and look around the forums. There is a member there that posts under the user name "Kingels". Get in touch with him. He is a professional (meaning he gets paid to rid farmers of nuisance animals) hunter that works primarily at night. He could probably tell you all that you want to know from first hand personal experience as he has been through LOTS of different night vision scopes.

I don't know enough about the model names & numbers to tell you what is good or bad, however, one thing I am certain of is whatever you get IT MUST BE 3RD GENERATION! Don't waste time or money on anything other than Gen. 3 equipment.
