I'll be traveling around the state this summer. Is there a particular forum to ask if anyone has particular knowledge about specific locations I will be - I'm thinking of a hotel, in particular, where I will be at a 3-day conference. I don't just want to call and say, "Yeah, I'm registered there this summer and want to know if I can carry my pistol around the place."

I checked Texas3006.com and it doesn't list the hotel (InterContinental Hotel, 15201 Dallas Parkway, Addison, TX 75001) but I want to confirm before showing up with my weapon.

Of all the posted places we discuss hotels are way down on the list. The last one I remember discussed here was a Hilton in Austin. A quick search might help.

Several forum members travel extensively as I did until a year ago. I have never seen a posted hotel but there are a few in Texas.

If it was me, and I always travel armed where not infringed, and I arrived at a hotel and it was posted but not compliant I would probably stay and not mention it. Non-compliant signs really don't bother me all that much. Sometimes the best option is to not mention anything. Another option is to stay elsewhere but you can run the risk of incurring cancellation charges.

If it was compliant I would start reaming all of the way up the line to the very top. Travelers who are members of hotel frequent stay programs who have a documented pattern carry weight with the hotels. I have garnered my share of free nights and weekends, some for something as simple as no hot water.

There are those who believe that a hotel room is an extension of their home and would not let a posted sign worry them. Those who subscribe to this thinking also often believe that their life and the protection of their loved ones trumps a hotel's silly postings.

Texas3006.com is a good resource. Please enter the hotel on the website if they have 3006 signs. Compliant or not.

You can edit your post and change the title. If you put the hotel name there maybe you'll get a reply from someone who stayed there. I'm a Marriott guy and usually don't stay at IHG properties so I don't know.

FYI, the InterContinental is NOT - repeat NOT - posted with any 30-06 signage. I checked three of the doors while there last week. Nothing. Also did not see anything in the hotel literature. There is a small bar area in the main lobby, but there were no 51% signs posted anywhere. Should be good-to-go. I'll post this on the Texas3006 site later.

One note, though, is that the rooms did not have safes, so you cannot secure your weapon in your room if you are going somewhere that is not CHL-friendly.

Chances are that most every hotel in Texas will have either a safe in the room or safety deposit boxes available downstairs for valuables.

Hotels may be held liable for the full value of missing items if they do not provide a safe place for valuables. Read the Innkeeper laws which should be posted to the back of your hotel room door.

Also, i believe that no hotel may restrict your weapon inside your rented hotel room, regardless of 30.06 posting which may only restrict handguns in public places of the hotel.

I believe that being in a hotel room is the same as being in your house or aprartment
