WESTWAY -- An 81-year-old man showed a would-be robber he still has plenty of fight in him by smacking the intruder in the head with a pipe, sheriff's deputies said Friday.

I remember hearing a story about some punk trying to pull a strong arm carjacking on a small statured older gentleman. Apparently the intended victim was golden gloves in his youth and still had some fight left in him. They had to call an ambulance for the punk. Or so the story goes.

Santa Rosa War Veteran Foils Robbery Attempt
SANTA ROSA (CBS 5 / BCN) ―

Police say Donald Clouston, an 81-year-old veteran from Santa Rosa, thwarted a robbery attempt by a teenager Wednesday afternoon.
A boy in his mid-teens learned Wednesday afternoon that it is
not a good idea to try to rob a war veteran at knifepoint, even if he is an 81-year-old former Army paratrooper.
Santa Rosa police Sgt. Steve Bair said that's what happened around 2 p.m. in the 1600 block of Fourth Street. The elderly man, Donald Clouston, was walking with a grocery bag in each arm when the boy approached him with a large knife.
The boy said, "Old man, give me your wallet or I'll cut you," Bair said. The man told the boy he was a veteran who fought in two wars and had been threatened with knives and bayonets, Bair said.
Clouston then put his bags on the ground and told the boy that if he stepped closer he would be sorry. When the boy stepped closer, the man kicked him in the groin, knocking him to the sidewalk, Bair said. The Army paratrooper picked up his grocery bags and walked home, leaving the boy doubled over, Bair said.
The man reported the attempted robbery to police 45 minutes later.
Bair said the teen is white and 15 or 16 years old and anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Rosa Police Department.

I was once told, "You never want to fight an old man, old men fight to WIN, young men fight for fun."
Another one I like is, "There is no such thing as a fair/clean fight. If I'm fighting, I'll do whatever it takes to win, gouge your eyes, kick you in your man parts, weapons, it's all fair game, because I'm going to win, period."

Another thing to remember: Old men don't get to be old men by losing fights.
Well, actually you do if the fights are with your wife. It's a matter of survival to let her win every time.

Boy, that guy didn't need a gun...6'8" and a punch like a sledge hammer. I guess the burglar decided that career choice was on a dead end tract, after Palmer got through with him, the police said he was singing like a bird on his buddies!
Way to go... Palmer!!
