Where to go for background checks?

Hello all,

1st post and I wanted to say thanks to those responsible for this website! I've learned a lot in a short time.

My question - What source(s) do you recommend I use to do my own background check before final paperwork is turned in? Do I just ask the DPS? Or use someone's work verification app?

Thanks for the help,
JD45

Welcome to the forum.

I don't understand what you are asking.

You fill out the CHL application, along with the fingerprint cards, photos, affidavits, TR-100 form, payment, and any other documentation required by special circumstances. You send all that to DPS, and they do the background checks (at least five of them).

Are you asking about getting a background check on yourself to see if there is anything on your record?

That really isn't necessary, and it's a waste of money for most people. You generally know if you were arrested or have been determined in default on child support or loans. Those aren't things that can happen without your knowledge.

Jim, thanks for the reply. Yes a personal check is what I'm asking about to confirm dates, etc.

People have used sites like http://www.publicdata.com/prices.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to check up on themselves. I don't recall that it made a difference one way or the other. That one is not expensive. I can't vouch for how reliable they are.

Good luck with your application.
