Carrying at the Gym

How do you handle this issue?

I am very leery of driving to the gym every day and leaving my gun in the car.

I have been considering buying something along the lines of a Ruger LCP and putting it in a pouch that hangs off a chain/necklace under my t-shirt.

Any suggestions from those that work out regularly and carry?

Rent a private locker in private room (if available). Keep your handgun hidden in your gym bag. Don't reveal your HG and maybe you would be okay.

Problems I would encounter is that I don't use a gym bag and whats the use of packing in a locker (24/7), might as well leave it in the car.

My wife has the same issue, and I don't really like that she leaves her gun in her car because then she's vulnerable in the parking lot. Not to mention, gyms are a prime target for car thieves. They know you won't normally be back to your vehicle for at least 30 minutes or an hour. I'd rather her rent a locker and store her weapon there. I can't think of any choice you might have while working out. I don't know how you could carry a weapon while exercising.

My gym is posted 30.06, so I don't have a choice. It stays at home for that time. Fortunately, I can usually get in & out pretty quickly, since the gym is near my home and the weight room is mostly just kids looking to show off for their friends, and they usually don't want to use the same weights as me (or be seen with me lifting anywhere near them - can't take the competition, I guess  ).

I don't like lifting weights. They're too heavy.

I pondered this topic for a while. I would definitely not leave my gun in the car because of the reason that arod757 raised. I just decided to get a simple gym bag, and put my Kahr PM9 in it. The gym bag stays with me the duration that I'm at the gym, and no one will think that anything is out of the ordinary. I also think putting your gym bag in a locker wouldn't be all that terrible. I don't think (knock on wood) that a gym would be a huge threat for a robbery, so it may not be imperative to have your gun by your side the entire time. The purists here will say never to leave your gun, but I think you see my point.

That may be the best compromise. I should get a gym-bag.

you can typically leave your gat in your gymbag, and put the gymbag in a locked locker and you'd be squared away.

My gym is not posted, so I wear my gear into the locker room. I put everything into a gym bag and store it in a locker. I keep my knife on me. When my workout is over, I see how much time it takes me to scurry to the locker and open it. It isn't ideal, but I think it is better than leaving it in my car.

I don't leave mine in the car.

If I'm taking a class, then I keep it in my gym bag, then put the gym bag in a location of the room where I can keep a fairly constant eye on it and have easy access to it.
If I'm using the machines, then I put the gym bag in a locker.

I use one of those gyms where the majority of members think that nothing will be stolen from them, and they just put their things in a locker without a lock. I use a lock. I'm betting that thieves will pick them over me. (But I've been wrong before.)

I don't need to carry to the gym. They can see my guns when I am doing curls :woohoo

Just be sure to un-holster in the car, not in the locker room!

I have an Uncle Mikes "clip" holster that I use when going to the gym. My 24 Hour Fitness here in Houston is not posted, so I carry into the gym, and remove the holster in the locker room. I usually try to find a locker in the corner, and disarm when there isn't anyone around. This particular holster is nice because it's very easy to remove -- I could probably do it with people around, but I'd rather not push my luck. After my workout, I put the holster back on and carry on my way out of the gym.

So far, so good.
