By chance, has anyone shot both of these and prefers one over the other? Pros or cons? I would be looking at a variant 3, SA/DA with a decocker.

I have the H&K USP .40 V3. I love this gun because it does have a decocker but no external safety. A friend of mine has the p2000, that is a very nice gun as well but if I remember correctly, his has the thumb safety and I did not like that. I do not think you could go wrong with either or these weapons.

I have a Version "1.5" (meaning it has a safety lever on both sides  ) USP Compact in .40. I haven't yet had the chance to compare my USPc to a P2000. Are they really that different?

I have the P2000SK. No safety that I am aware of for the thumb.

Also look at the P30 it has a decocker, no safety, ambi slide release and ambi mag release. My Dad is a lefty and liked the features the P30 offered.
