Serial N. Dallas carjacker targets women

In the past few weeks there have been at least 5 carjackings in the
area of Dallas off US 75 near the "M" streets.

All the victims of the carjackings have been women between the ages
of about 26 and 80.

Dallas PD believes there may be one perp. He is a black male who was
seen in a neighborhood prior to the incident(s) wearing an orange and/or
yellow safety vest. Apparently he is trying to give the impression that he's
part of some construction crew working in the area.

In one of the instances a "chrome handgun" was brandished by the perp, but
in another struggle with a woman whose 2 children were in the Ford Expedition,
the gun he was wielding was dropped and found to be a toy gun.

The gunman drove away from the fighting mother and dropped off her 7 and 9
year old children a few blocks away, unharmed.

Some of the jacked vehicles were later found in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas,
stripped.

Ladies - Be aware of this news.

More accurately, the intersection of Abrams Rd & Mockingbird Ln. AKA Hillside Village. The news report initially failed to report it was a black man..... instead, they reported a clear description was unavailable. That's what I call PC reporting and I'm sick of it. Anyway, my wife works with a neighbor of one of the attack victims, that victim said he used a box cutter, was a black man and had a big space between his front teeth. Also, note the attacks happened during daylight hours.

Well, I saw an ABC 20/20 report last week that told how to deal with such situations. You should 1) not get a gun because the shooter will probably disarm you and or shoot you anyway. 2) even if you do get your gun out, you might hit an innocent person and miss the perpetrator. 3) you should play dead in the car seat 4) have a cell phone, it's a better weapon than a gun. 5) If the carjacker is too close, you can hand the phone to him and let the police talk to him. 6) try to get away without being shot. 7) If all that doesn't work...call Diane Sawyer and she will send her "active shooters" with toy air guns to swing in on helicopters.

What's going to become of this carjacker when his target decides to target him?

A robber who walked into the Columbia downtown Alcoholics Anonymous center, pulled out a gun and demanded money was killed (stopped) in a burst of gunfire from an AA visitor’s gun, police said.

“Gimme what you got,” witnesses quoted the robber as saying when he entered the AA building at 2015 College St. in Five Points about 10:48 p.m. Saturday. They said he brandished a .25-caliber handgun.

At that point, as one AA visitor dropped something on the floor — possibly his wallet — another AA visitor pulled out his own pistol and shot the robber “multiple times,” police said.

Columbia police reported that an 18-year-old man who attempted an armed robbery of an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting late Saturday night at the ACOA Club at 2015 College St. in Five Points was shot and killed (stopped) by someone in the meeting who police say carried a legally concealed handgun.

Kayson Helms, 18, of Edison, N.J., was pronounced dead at Palmetto Health Richland at 11:24 p.m. Saturday.

Helms was identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts. His office notified the next of kin.

An autopsy Sunday showed bullets hit Helms in the abdomen, chest and neck, Watts said. Stitched him pretty good there I suspect

The AA visitor who fired his weapon and killed (stopped) the suspect had a concealed weapons permit, police said.

Police declined to identify the shooter, saying an investigation is under way.The reporter and the paper are really mad that they cannot divulge the name of the "killer" at this time.

Police said they expect to release more information today after noon.

This is the second time in five weeks that a person with a concealed weapons permit has killed (stopped) a person in the Midlands.

In early March, an Irmo pizza delivery man shot and killed (stopped) an attacker who telephoned in a phony order. In that case, pizza man Christopher Miller shot and killed (stopped) Paul Andrew Sturgill, 17, as Sturgill and three others tried to rob him, police said.

At twilight Sunday, the Columbia AA center, a popular destination in the city’s Five Points area, was deserted. A sign on the front of the low-swung block building read, “No Money Left in Club Overnight.”"Perseverance and Preparedness triumph over Procrastination and Paranoia every time.” -- Steve

local CBS news just reported another carjacking in this same area....however, they followed the guy
and stopped him in Oak Cliff (area he was leaving the cars). He has been taken into custody and
fits the description of other victims.

This link shows the perp that DPD captured. Not only did he confess to the Dallas carjackings, but one in Desoto that
had not been discussed during the Dallas coverage.

Look at his picture - can you say "substance abuse problem"?

Notice how his eyes have no life in them? The guy is no longer a human being, he has become an animal. Scary to know animals like that walk amongst us every day. Maybe we would have all been better off if the cops had just shot him dead. That animal will be back on the street again before you know it. Only by then he will have graduated to really violent crimes.

Is that a five point star tattooed above his eye or some sort of natural mark? Can't tell from the pic resolution. Here's hoping he stays locked away for a looooong time.

He was probably just stealing cars to get a ride to Hair Club for Men, though...

The above video on the Dallas Morning News website runs about
4M,29S.

This is the chase of the perp in his stolen 2002 Cougar by DPD down US 75 and
I-35E from Lower Greenville Avenue, Dallas to Oak Cliff.

There is a wealth of data on the police car's camera view, but
it is rather small. If I read it correctly, a batch of the chase
was at 89 MPH on highways filled with innocent people.

Congratulations to DPD on a job well done.
