DALLAS - Police are investigating after a 26-year-old woman fatally shot her neighbor while he allegedly tried to force his way into her apartment Tuesday night.
While Laquarius Sharp and 55-year-old Valton Morgan were neighbors at the Leigh Ann Apartments, Sharp said they were not acquaintances.
"I'm still scared," she said while recalling the incident that led to her roommate fatally shooting Morgan.
Sharp said it began with Morgan knocking furiously on their door at about 11 p.m.
"He was beating the window, messing with the screen [and] literally kicking in the door, all that stuff," she said.
According to police reports, Morgan beat at the door for about six minutes. During that time, Sharp called police and her roommate grabbed a gun and waited.
"He comes back up the steps and bombarded his way through the door," Sharp said. "[He] literally knocked her out of the way and she shot."
It wasn't until later that Sharp said she learned Morgan was her neighbor.
"I feel he got twisted around," said a neighbor. "He had been drinking on medication."
While one set of stairs lead up to Sharp's home, another a few feet away lead up to Morgan's.
Neighbors said he was seen staggering and falling down that night in the complex. About 15 minutes before the shooting, he was even seen knocking on other random doors.
Lareska Mingo, another neighbor, said he spotted Morgan and tried to convince him to go back home.
"Man, you're intoxicated," he said he told Morgan. "You need to go in the house."
After being shot, Morgan was taken to Charlton Medical Center, which was where he was later pronounced dead.
It's a situation that has left Sharp and her roommate with questions.
"I don't know what would have happened," Sharp said. "I honestly don't know."
Dallas police have not pressed any charges against either woman inside the apartment.
