Avatar feature has been activated on a test basis

In response to requests by members, the avatar feature has been activated. The default size limit is 80X80 and maximum file size is 6411 kb. Here is a link to a free website for creating an avatar from a photo. http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm sure there are many more websites. You can upload your avatar by going to the "User Control Panel" and clicking on edit avatar. The remote avatar feature has not been activated and I seriously doubt we ever will. I may or may not add an avatar gallery, but if I do, it will be after the close of the 2009 Texas Legislative Session. If you have a photo in your signature line, please move it to an avatar. We know this can't be done over night, but please try to do it in the next two or three weeks.

Please note, avatars are subject to all of the forum rules! If we wouldn't allow it as a photo in a post, or if it sends a message that we wouldn't allow in a post, then it's not going to be appropriate for an avatar. We also don't want any "kill 'um all and let God sort them out" type avatars I've seen on other websites. At this point, the avatar feature has been activated on a trial basis, just as we approached the "Off Topics" sub-forum. That worked out very well and all of the Moderators hope avatars will go as well..

Thanks,
Chas.

Will pictures be prohibited in signature blocks if the avatar feature goes permanent? If so, I like avatars!

What I've been too dense [pun] to figure out about nitrogen's is the slice of pizza. I get the N2 reference, but what's with the pizza?

After thinking long and hard [pun] about an avatar, I chose one that makes what I feel is an historically critical observation, one that has affected military small-arms tactics from the late 19th century through today. To wit: Auguste Rodin did not know the first thing about proper sling-carry methods with an AR.

:iagree: (That excerpt is from Charles' announcement at the top of this thread) He made the request...don't know if that means it's a rule or not (yet) but I'm going to comply regardless. Should be no need for them in sig blocks, now. And the cool thing about the avatar feature is the size can be controlled by the admin.

If people insist on keeping them in the sig blocks as well things really will get cluttered; I imagine the avatar feature might be in jeopardy of remediation as a result.

Another forum I'm on usually has "make an avatar for me" threads. This 14 year old kid (at the time) drew this for me, and it was just so odd, yet so appropriate, I have been using it various places since.

The two heads come from this image from wikipedia, of the nitrogen molecule:

It takes someone way more creative than me to come up with... that out of it :)

Ditto! And does it have two heads? I couldn't even figure out that was a slice of pizza. I thought it was some kind of mutant catapillar until I looked up a model of a nitrogen molecule.

Somebody un'dense' me...

Never mind, Nitrogen un'dense'd me by answering while I was writing the question. "A liberal Nostradamus, he is"... Yoda say.
