I Love My New Eotech!

I went to Elm Fork range on Saturday with my son and spent a couple of pleasant hours dialing in my new Eotech 517-A65 on my AR carbine. Well, lets be honest. I spent 15 minutes dialing it in, another 5 minutes getting the iron sights to co-witness, and an hour and 40 minutes blasting the target and chatting up other shooters! It was time well spent.

This is a great sighting system. I know, I know. Some like the Aimpoints better. Others think that ACOGs are the only way to go. That's fine for them. I like this one. Target acquisition is intuitive and swift, and for these aging eyes, it works much better than the iron sights.

Speaking of iron sights. . . this AR has an ER Shaw regular 16" barrel with flash suppressor and the standard A2 front sight. The Eotech reticle POA matches POI, but I've had to crank in almost all of the left windage in the ARMS 40L flip up rear aperture sight to make it co-witness with the Eotech reticle and the front sight.

Anyway, I can recommend the Eotech sight for anyone who is looking for some kind of optical sighting system for a flat-top AR15. Next, I will be purchasing an Eotech 3X magnifier with a flip-to-side mount.

Yep; I've never been disappointed with my EOTechs. Although I've never figured out why I opted to buy an NV-capable as my second one. I don't own any NV gear that would be useful with it, and probably never will.

I've put off buying the magnifier and flip mount telling myself I was waiting on my POF .308 to come in. So you'll probably have one before I do. ;-) When you get it, tell us what you think.

I have to agree with you.

I've got the 512 and it's one of the best investments I've ever made. It works!
Red dot is nice and small so it can be used effectively on 50 yard paper targets and even works well for shooting clay pigeons set up at 100 yards. Just cover the clay with the dot and squeeze the trigger. They break almost every time.

Even had the chance to try it on my son's new "Remington Tactical" 870 with factory installed extended mag, iron sights and a few other goodies) shooting thrown clays. I didn't do so well but my son's hit ratio was 13-0 when we quit counting. He likes it too.

One lesson learned though. When you are hunting coyotes and leave the truck before dawn, remember to brighten the reticle after the sun comes up. A red dot that's set so low you can't see it in daylight, doesn't do you much good when the two coyotes you've been waiting for come over the top of the hill. Doesn't help that the scope was new and I kept pushing the down (dim) button instead of the up (bright) button. At the time, I had no irons so looking through that flat glass with that huge field of view didn't help getting on target. I won't make that mistake again!

I have an Eotech 552 on my M4 and I love it.

I've played with the ACOG and do not like it.
