Pocket .38 Revolver - Where to Rent?

I have been wanting a pocket .38 revolver for more convenient carry. I was also thinking it could be good for bicycling too!

I was really thinking about a S&W airweight, but I have read a lot of mixed reviews on the recoil. I think the best advice is to try before you buy. However, the range nearest me (I am in Granbury) does not have any snubbies to try. Does anyone know of a place that rents different snubbies in Fort Worth or the near vicinity?

I regularly carry a S&W 642. The recoil with standard .38spl rounds is not bad, but it does kick a bit with the +p loads which you should be carrying. I wouldn't buy it as a fun gun to take to the range (but do practice with it!), but as a defensive weapon that due to it's small size and light weight you are more likely to carry, it is great.

Sorry I can't help you with Ft. Worth ranges. Our indoor range here has them for rent, but that probably doesn't help you much.

Mine is a handful, but it isn't terrifying or anything. It's not even particularly painful. Even with +P 128 grain Golden Sabers. Still, it's not what I would call fun to shoot. And I figure that, in a real shooting situation, I'm not going to paying that much attention to the recoil. I'm going to be busy trying to shoot without evacuating my bowel.

Good point ! :smilelol5: Perhaps a bowel evacuation, if performed at the onset of conflict, could minimize the number and ferocity of the opponents?

An aftermarket grip that covers the backstrap makes the snubs a little more difficult tuck in tight places, but appreciably dampens the felt recoil.

If you are serious, that would be great! I think I have around 50 .38 rounds and I would be more than happy to pay for range time and some more ammo. :tiphat:

That would largely depend on your diet. If you anticipate trouble tomorrow, perhaps a big helping tonight of churizo and eggs with a large side of kim chee, washed down with a couple of pints of Bass Ale would go a long way toward improving your tactical position.

Not sure what that has to do with pocket .38 revolvers. . . .

I would replace the Bass Ale with a hearty German brew!.... :thumbs2:

This thread has sure gone down the tubes. Jack Parr got fired (a really long time ago) for less than this.

Bullet Trap in Plano, TX has some for rent. Quite a drive, but it's a nice indoor range with a large selection of guns new/used/rental.
