Yesterday
wife was picking up some deer corn at GM, in tyler. There was a, lets call him a person. he was arguing with the sales staff about the pink pistols and how since they sold out he should be allowed to purchase a non pink SW for the same price. he was ranting about how they are all the same sans the pink stuff.
anywho, I noticed he was carrying, halfway concealed, not very good in fact.
they had put up a new sign asking concealed permit holders to to please notify the manger when you come in carrying as a courtesy. Your not obligated nor will you be turned away, but to me that defeats the purpose of carrying concealed.

back to said person, he went on and on about how the firearms were targeted for ladies and ladies cant shoot, that got my wife stirred up, she shoots darn good and politley reminded him that CONCEALED carry means just that, :rules: and we shouldn't be seeing his pistol on the outside of his t-shirt, and then asked him if he saw anyone near him carrying :waiting: , hence the term concealed. he got mad and stormed out, pistol flapping alongside his tshirt and belly donut

then the clerk told us he was mad because he recently took his re-qualification class there and was denied a re-application from the instructor...and had been complaining at the store manager all last week.. I could easily see why, he was a hot head over nothing,

the let us know sign i think is one for form corporate,

Call me oppositional defiant. The law says i must identify to a LEO, not a store manager.

The law says i must identify to a LEO, not a store manager.
The law also says
1. They can throw your sorry butt out for any reason. Whats your point?
2. He's committing violations already as others could readily identify his pistol.

I was in Gander Mountain yesterday as well (different location), bringing in a pistol to get some fixed. I had to stop at the front, and put it in a new case that they used to take it to the firearms section. No big deal and I had no problem as it kept everyone nice and calm.

I think his point, if I am reading it correctly, is that he is not required to inform anyone other than a LEO. If I saw that sign, I would walk right by it, completely ignoring it. Concealed means concealed.

Unless the OP is the store manager I don't see how it's his business anyway.

Help me, please. If the store manager is the OP, how is it his business?

Management has the right to tell people to leave if they don't follow the rules.

Concealed means concealed... :tiphat: ;-)

I like rocky road ice cream but the OP was talking about a guy who wasn't really concealing.

Ok, let me make it simple, I really did not mean to complicate it. If I were to go Gander Mountain, if they do not have the proper sign (30.06) I am walking in and not telling anyone a word. If I want the world to know I am carry a weapon I will buy a cheesy CHL Badge.

I was referring to the new sign posted at the front door, and if I'm not mistaken Oldgringo was referring to the average chl who is properly concealing, in which case unless given effective notice by 30.06 the sign means nothing. :thumbs2:

Close enough.

Gander Mountain ain't no bargain city! If the store manager, or anyone else, in that establishment wants to preempt my CHL, I'll take what little business I do with Gander Mountain to the Dollar Store or somewhere else...that's for sure. I won't even look in that direction as we drive by.

Only a 30:06 sign or a 51.

I went to a lot of trouble to legally walk right past them.

That's what I'll do...in about a week.

But thanks for askin' :rules:

At the two Gander Mountains I have been in, they ask that you check any firearm at the front, UNLESS YOU ARE A VALID CHL HOLDER, then continue on with your business.

I carry at Gander Mountain all the time, and I know one of the firearms managers and he knows I carry. No one says a word. In fact, he stated once "I can see your piece", and my answer was "nope that is my cell phone. My gun is in my pocket".

His answer was "need any help with anything". No concerns.

It is my impression that they do not want you walking to the back of the store holding a firearm (ie for repairs). Other than that, it is not their business.
