Let me say this.. I have yet to go hunting -- but I bought a Savage 110 30.06 at a gun show with a scope on it.. (Buschnell) .. I went to Garland Public range to try it out... my buddy had a gun with a Nikon scope.. When looking thru his scope it was much much brighter (even though both were 40).. any suggestions on a good 150-200 dollar scope?

Sorry to say,.......but.........you get what you pay for when buying a scope.

You may find one in the 150-200 range that you like and is bright enough for your needs, only to find the next time you look thru it you cannot see anything because of the fog!

I would suggest that you budget around 700+ and get yourself a scope that you will enjoy for a lifetime.

Academy has a fairly nice 3-9x Nikon for $150. I bought one earlier this year. It's not as nice as a 2x or more expensive Leupold, but it is not bad at all. Much better looking than the sub $100 scopes I looked through.

Time will tell how it does long term, but so far I'm happy with it.

If you can go a little more, a Leupold in the 2-7 or 3-9 power range should be available on the web at a good price; this would be a quality scope that matches up well w/ your rifle.

The problem is that Optics Planet almost never has in stock what they say they have, and they refuse to confirm availability by phone. After several bad experiences with them in which items we were assured to be in stock were backordered for 5-7 weeks or more (some scope rings, a Burris scope, other items), I have finally stopped doing business with them. Saving a couple of bucks on the price isn't worth being lied to repeatedly. They also charge your card before shipping, while the item is backordered, and then they take up to several days to restore the funds if you cancel the order.

I'll never deal with them again.

That said, I've found Bear Basin Outfitters to be very helpful, and they have good prices.

I have a Simmons Master Series 4-14X40 that I am asking $140 shipped ($210 retail). I currently have it mounted on a Remington 597 22LR that I am not really happy with. Selling both the gun and the scope.
