sounds like the same kind of violation as disclosing medical records or even police files.

terrible, immoral, and illegal.

More proof that big brother is always watching, whether mandated by the bureaucracy or not. Certain people in public occupations are going to think that their access to information implies some responsibility to become investigators and crime prevention analysts.

Every day I see more reasons to limit or eliminate more of my involvement with government services. The public library was added to the list long ago.

I think we have even more to fear from the little busy-body individuals and clerks in government occupations than the big dogs.

No telling what they'd think of all the books on Crowley, LeVay, Wicca, etc. that I used to check out when I was doing a research project in college about the crazy media hype over ritualistic satanic crimes in the mid to late 80s. Anyone who didn't know me and might have looked at the list of books I'd been checking out may have felt compelled to sic an investigator on me to find out exactly what I was up to.

(Yes, Wicca is not satanism...don't start)

A few years ago I filed a formal protest against my city library system having Bellesiles' book "Arming America" based on its proven lies and distortions. The library board turned down my petition to have the book removed because they felt they would be stepping on Bellesiles' First Amendment rights, even after I pointed out in my rebuttal that lies are not protected. I was told that they (do this and that) to select books and this one had come highly recommended, and that I could also recommend books to counter the lies.

The head librarian then complained about me, in a social situation with other librarians from other cities, by name, and stated that I "Do not even have a library card." One of the people she was commenting to was a personal friend who was head librarian for her city and who had encouraged me to try what someone had done successfully in her city.

I filed a complaint about her with the board, pointing out that her comments about me might be tortable against her and the library district, and that with today's "universal" library cards, my card from a library other than hers was just as good as any other.

I received a terse and unapologetic, one sentence, reply, over her signature, but I had by then changed cities and didn't feel like following up.

I have a bad feeling we are going to see more of this kind of thing.
Remember, it was an activist bureaucrat in the Ohio secretary of state's office who "leaked" Joe The Plumber's personal records to the press.

As for libraries, they have long been run by the liberal academics.
I used to subscribe to a large number of magazines. I would take the one's I had read to the library and leave them there. (After removing the mailing label.)
Some of the magazines stayed around - One (Ad Astra) even got a designated place on the shelf!
But any gun related magazines were gone the following morning. I even observed the librarian throwing away a copy of the American Rifleman.

The American Library Association is one of the worst liberal groups in the country. What do you expect from them?

I always hear Liberals screaming about "Big Brother" but only when Conservatives or Republicans are concerned. From what I have seen it is mostly Liberals themselves that are the threat to our civil rights and not those they scream about. For example, who is watching the current Administration? With Bush we had every leftists reporter and government employee making accusations about the "What if" that never took place. Where are those people now when the Administration has declared every conservative minded person a potential domestic terrorist? It seems to me that now is when they need to be looking into every step since none of the scrutiny is being applied to Obama. Seems a reporter or small time government employee could make a real name for themselves if they were to champion the civil rights of ALL Americans by reporting on illegal intrusion by government or civilians. I doubt that will happen because, just like in this story, the Left only considers something illegal or immoral if it is done by a Conservative or a Republican.

Now i know why the guy at Borders Book Store was looking at me funny when i asked for books by Masad Ayoob and the book "On Killing"

I bet he thought Masad was some "al Qaida" author :P
