Can I carry at University of Phoenix?

I am going to some work related training for the next few days for business Analytics. I was informed that the training will be at the University of Phoenix location off of Coit Road in Dallas. I checked the 3006 site and nothing posted there, but wonder if it falls under a school/college (I wont debate the education level of U of Phoenix), which would prohibit me from carrying.

I need to whip out my manual again and really look at it to see how it defines school. Any thoughts?

IANAL, but the University of Phoenix is a fully accredited, albeit private, university. My bet is that you are prohibited from carrying under PC ยง46.03(1). Someone who really knows will correct me if that's wrong.

grabbed ye old handbook and did a search for "school:
PC w6.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses
or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon
listed in Section 46.05(a):
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution,
any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or
educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation
vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or
educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written
regulations or written authorization of the institution;
and
Q: Where can I not carry my handgun?
A: Handguns and other weapons cannot be carried at schools or on
school buses, at polling places, in courts and court offices, at
racetracks, at sec...
:rules:

Now, I am thinking intent here. The folks that made this coudnt have been thinking about adults (i.e. school buses). Drat and double drat!!!! :banghead: :banghead:

I dont even know what made me even think that it was an issue until I started saying to myself that U of phoenix is actually an educational institution. I am not going there for college, but rather training for someone at my job. Grrrrrrr :grumble :grumble :grumble

I'll have to do some reading and see if there is any wiggle room.

I will, because I felt the very same way about the school before I looked closely into it.

I attended night school for 2 long years at U of P for my Masters. I wouldn't carry there. I was hesitant about attending since they started out as an Internet-degree type of institution. After getting my Bachelor at U of H - Downtown and subsequently going to U of P, I feel much better about their reputation. The resident MBA program was for working people only. If you were not currently employed, you were not eligible.

No different than going to a job fair at UT-D or seeing a guest speaker at SMU.

So in other words, no.

...and had the Campus Carry Bill, proposed this session, not been "chubbed" to death by
the democrats.... we'd have our right to carry on college campuses...... I won't forget
next time I go to vote.
Hopefully, your training goes well. Good luck.

Don't forget the lack of effort by certain Republicans, particularly on the Calendars Committee.

I assure you I won't forget. I hope the folks in districts where their republican reps drug their feet
or failed to adhere to the republican platform remember.
To kill all the good bills, over a bill requiring a photo voter ID? I don't get it. To rent a P.O. Box these days
you have to provide 3 forms of verifiable ID's. I always show my DL as ID when voting. Not a big deal. It
might actually prevent some type of voting fraud.

But you forget that your opinion makes sense and is logical. The left doesn't subscribe to such philosophies. :smilelol5:

You are correct, we don't.

to add a little something to it, the 2-5 floors of the building were university of phoenix, however, the main floor was a mortgage shop, etc. and was not 3006 posted? Is there a way to split the hairs on this one, like unless it is 100% a school, then you can carry.

To ask another way, if I was a metlife employee (on the main floor), could I carry? If I went to the 2nd floor where it was U of phoniex could I carry. And the final noodle bender, if I was going to the top floor (not U of phoenix) would I be illegal on floor 2-5, but not the other floors?

I really feel that visiting the floors associated with the school will get you a Class A Mis. A year in jail is more of a chance than I would be willing to take.

This sucks. By virtue of being on the same premises as an educational institution people that have nothing to do with said institution are being denied their consitutional rights. And how many other businesses are in this same situation? To reiterate, this really sucks.

This could have been solved with the Campus Carry Bill: killed by foot dragging Rep's in Calendars and
selfish, chubbing Dem's.
