After lusting over it all last summer, it was still on the shelf when we arrived up here last week . I couldn't stand it any longer, I've bought the NIB SA 1911A1 Lightweight Compact from a small out of the way gunshop up here in Colorado...at last year's pre-election price.

No thanks to Janet and Bill, the gun is now in the possession of my FFL in Rusk, TX and we're in Colorado for the summer. There's got to be some way to get the gun to me without involving the expense of a 2,000 mile round trip. The local FFL's tell me no Colorado DL, no Colorado transfer

Any suggestions?

This works in Texas, do not know how Colorado will handle it. This assumes that you have a "real" Colorado address, not just a hotel.

I have a friend that now "winters" in Houston, but his DL, CHL and other ID's all have his home state address. In order to cash checks and other transactions that would process smoother if he had a local address he went to DPS to see if he could get a Texas ID card. They had no issues with this and issued him a Texas ID card. He found out later that his Texas ID will be accepted by local FFL's.

Thanks, that word "real" seems to be the sticking point. Although our RV has stayed in the same space in the same RV park, year round, for the past three summer seasons, it is not "real" property and we have no utility bills, per se, so the local FFL's say 'no can do'.

This is another example of the fallacy of "gun control laws". An honest guy is denied, the BG's would just go steal the gun and not bother themselves, et al, with silliness such as laws, etc.

These types of situations convince me that we are nothing but the bug and the government is the windshield. Sorry about you being stuck in this mess created by our great elected officials.

On the bright side you got a great gun at a great price. If you waited a year one summer isn't too bad!

I thought FFL's could legally ship to individuals if the gun was already transferred to them?
Did you not do the transfer with your TX FFL yet?

Maybe one of the other states around colorado will allow it? It'll still be a drive, but not as far as all the way back to TX?

East Texas is a pretty big area and Lake City, Colorado is a popular summer place for Texans. In fact, this area is called "Little Texas" by some Coloradans. Others aren't so appreciative of us "summer residents" and the tourist dollar. Those folk would like the summer people to Fed Ex their money up here... and stay home.

Somebody will be coming this way some time...maybe.

For a handgun, he has to be a resident of the state where the transfer happens.

Why can't you get a Colorado ID with the park address as a seasonal resident? I knew many out of state students who got a Texas ID for cashing checks (and drinking) but kept their home state DL and car registration at their parent's address.

If a person maintains a home in 2 States and resides in both States for certain periods of the year, he or she may, during the period of time the person actually resides in a particular State, purchase a handgun in that State. However, simply owning property in another State does not qualify the person to purchase a handgun in that State.

That's the kicker, one does not "own" his RV space.

I read the FAQ to mean property ownership is not sufficient. I know it isn't necessary because I rent an apartment in Texas and I have a resident CHL and can purchase handguns in Texas. IANAL but if you rent a RV space for the season that doesn't seem substantially different than renting an apartment.

If you're nomadic and stay at various KOA sites that's a different story.

I'm a 4th generation native to Colorado, married a Texas girl and now living in the DFW area! Point is that my whole family is in Littleton and we will be driving up there the first part of August. If you don't get it figured out by then, let me know and maybe we can help get it to you.

If you have to be in Texas to get this done, why not have your Rusk, TX
FFL send the gun up to the Texas Panhandle?

You'd still have to make a drive, but you'd cut off quite a few miles.

Good idea, but I do not think it will work.
Reason.........I do not believe he has completed the Transfer thru his Texas FFL yet. I think the Texas FFL is holding it until the transfer is complete.

Now, I don't know if this would work or if it is even legal............
Depending on how well the OP knows his FFL in Rusk, could he complete the Texas transfer (paperwork) by mail/email/fax....whatever?

But even if that was accomplished, I cannot see the FFL giving the gun to anyone other than the actual owner..........

Maybe the OP could make arrangements for the Rusk FFL to transfer the gun to someone going up there (like magicglock). That someone would then take the gun to Colorado and once there simply hand it to the Texas resident that is there. This sounds a bit fishy,.....but thinking about it, it is a face to face (with no money) by two Texas residents only being done in a different State...........would that be legal?

That's probably the best idea. Rusk FFL send the gun to a Texas FFL in the Panhandle and that FFL make the transfer to the owner (who drives there). All nice and legal.
