Traveling to Vicksburg, MS this weekend for a short getaway with the wife. We are planning on taking I-20 East through LA (eating along the way, probably in Shreveport or Monroe) and spending a couple of nights in Vicksburg.

I read over the handgunlaw .pdfs ,but I wanted to see if there were any particular differences in law in either of these states that any of you thought I should be keenly aware of.

Dunno what I-20 is like, but I-10 is full of corrupt officers in the boonies in LA. Watch your speed, and know the law, and your rights.

I travel the I-20 route to (and mostly) thru LA pretty often.

Heavily patrolled by Texas DPS near the border and especially by Waskom PD right near the border. I've never seen any LA State Police between the border and Shreveport. After Shreveport, there are lots of Parish Sheriff's Dept patrols especially at night.

Since you said that your were going to stop and eat in LA, the most distinct difference you need to be aware of is carrying concealed where they serve alcohol. That's a no-no in LA; and I'm talking about Red Lobster, Chili's, Applebee's, etc.

You do not want to see the inside of a LA jail. Other wise, I carry all the time there. I've never been stopped by any LA PD so I don't know how itchy they are about CHL.

Don't go in any casinos with your concealed handgun. Any I have ever seen in Mississippi follow the rule posting a sign per the statute which states:
In addition to the places enumerated in this subsection, the carrying of a concealed pistol or revolver may be disallowed in anyplace in the discretion of the person or entity exercising control over the physical location of such place by the placing of a written notice clearly readable at a distance of not less than ten (10) feet that the "carrying of a pistol or revolver is prohibited."

And in Louisiana where I believe they are licensed under a Class-A General retail Permit and the law prohibits carry in:

(10) Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises.

Need one of our LA guys to chime in, but IIRC the "Class-A General" is a minimum age of 18 place. Carry in Red Lobster etc. is fine. Again IIRC. There is a thread on the board from 1-2 years ago on this very subject. I'll look for it when I get a chance.

Lots of conflicting info. Take your best guess which way is right

I wrote the Louisiana State Trooper's office that overseas their concealed license program and they told me that carry was only restricted in full fledged bars.
