There's been a gunfight at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington., D.C.
I'm including the Google News link for search terms holocaust museum shooting. It should update with new report links as they become available.
Here's what is being reported so far, from The Washington Post:
A security guard and two other people were shot today inside the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum...U.S. Park Police said a gunman armed with a shotgun opened fire on the security guard and that other security guards returned fire. The gunman was reported wounded.
It should be noted that the museum, as well as all of Washington D.C. are "gun free zones" as far as carrying guns by non-government law enforcement personnel is concerned. Which is ironic when you consider the "Personal Histories" headline on the museum's "Resistance" page:
"At that time, a gun and a million dollars, the gun was worth more than a million dollars."
"Never again" is nothing more than a hollow slogan without the means to protect against it. Disarmament helped make genocide possible.
Museum visitors are fortunate that men with guns were immediately present to protect them.
I'll be checking back in throughout the day to see if newsworthy updates are available. In the mean time, you can continue to check the above Google News link.

When are the local elected officials going to finally get the message that disarming the law abiding citizens only leads to bloodshed in their streets?

CBS reports according to federal sources that the suspect is 89-year-old James Whittaker von Brunn.

I just saw this on FOX, however, I did not know it was an 89 yr. old "white supremicist" that did the shooting.
I pray the officer will make it through okay.

Will be interesting as to how his surname, age and if he was an immigrant play into this. He may have been a Nazi sympathizer all of his life or even served in the German military during WWII.

Keith, that's exactly what I was thinking, as at age 89 now, would just about him in the appropriate age group back then, for fleeing Nazi Germany at the war's end.

Actually according to CNN he was a PT boat skipper during WWII. He was a hardcore Neo-Nazi who did some Federal time in the 80's.
Unfortunately CNN also just reported that the guard died.

They are also bringing back to the forefront the Janet Nepalitano (DHS) "memo" they floated out there about the classifying of groups and other individuals that fit a "profile" for potentially deadly terrorist type attacks and the common thread being the possession of guns, etc etc etc...
Pretty much labeled all veterans as potential domestic terrorists...
That pretty much stuck in my craw...slightly...
After the uproar, they tried to downplay it, pull it out of circulation, diffuse it, apologize, without really apologizing...
After this I am concerned that they will play the ole "SEE I TOLD YOU SO!!!" routine...
Standby, you can almost feel it...

I heard on one of the network news casts tonight that this guy was convicted of an armed assault on the Federal Reserve in early 1980s when he tried to make a "citizens arrest" on Paul Voelker (FR Chairman at the time; now a senior counselor to Obama) for raising interest rates. He apparently spent 6 years in a Federal pen for that. So the obvious question will be - how did he get this rifle if he's a convicted Federal felon with a history of invading Federal buildings with weapons?

Exactly! I saw the same thing on our local NBC affiliate KXAS, and thought wait a minute! He's a felon! He
can't have a firearm. It's against the law.
So I say is that, or is that not, a superb example how gun control laws simply....do....not....work!! They encourage a felon do harm on unarmed citizens, while leaving the population helpless at the hands of the criminals.
( I think I'm preaching to the choir, so I'll be quiet now, thank you. )

The guy appears at first glance to be an overwrought, bonafide political nut case. And the anti gun folks are going to make hay with this incident, lots of it.

I was able to read the shooters web site last night before it was pulled from the server and if there was EVER a valid reason for a national domestic terrorist watch list, this guy was it. Here is his web addy, but it has been pulled at this time; probably for good I hope.
