i have a story i would like to share ill keep it as short as possible
my father died halloween night of 1996 i was a young 16 years of age
my stepmother sold all of my dads guns without asking me if we wanted any (not mad at her they had alot of debt as i am now 29 i understand)
anyways with years of trying to find my dads guns i finally caught a break
i found a guy who my stepmother gave 4 of dads guns to
he told me my dad owed him $1284 (even showed me the bill from 96)
he then agreed to sell them back to me for the amount owed on the bill
the guns were ruger 10-22, winchester 1300 defender, 1964 winchester 94 30-30 and a 1974 remington 700 bdl 243
knowing the value of the guns it would be hard for me to get my money back out of them
but sometimes money isnt everything in my opinion a small price to pay (even in todays economy) for something that you really want

I think you will see the money you paid as a small thing as time passes. The value of objects like this depends on factors beyond money. If it were me, I think I would have even paid interest on the money if the owner had asked for it. The guns are common but the tie you had with your father is not. For me, it was a few tools my grandfather gave me before he died. They are common and could easily be replaced but when I use them I feel I am honoring him.

The truth of the matter, according to my beliefs, is that even the cross The Christ died on was little more than wood and unimportant except for its roll. However, we still recognize the sacrifice and love when we see that symbol even if the original has long been destroyed. In that, we don't worship the symbol but the sacrifice and love. So, even those guns that may be lost are still an example of the love between you and your father whether you ever see them again or not. I hope that came out right and I pray you are able to recover those objects though the love you shared with your father serves as its own symbol.

I have an Ithaca 1911A1 that was my father's sidearm in WW2. It is in very good condition, all things considered, and my guess is that the current value is in the $600-$800 range. I wouldn't take $50,000 for it.
