Just got back from California for a visit with the wifes family. Enjoyed the visit must found many reasons to not stay. Felt naked not being able to carry. Didn't get all the details, but heard a news story teaser that a robber broke into a home, dropped his gun, homeowner got it and shot the robber. Mentioned it to the family I was visiting and was told the homeowner was arrested

Great to get back home to Texas

I'm flying to California next Saturday. I miss my friends and family there, but I'll be very glad when I get back home to Texas.

Things just keep getting weirder and weirder out there. I would welcome a jury trial were I the homeowner in this case.
I would love to get more information on this incident to see what charges were filed and if the DA intend to prosecute. While I'm a little hesitant to form a solid opinion without more information, this seems consistent with some of the other things that happen in that part of the country.
Looking forward to hearing more in the future.

Unless someone can pinpoint this story, we can only speculate.
In many states, it is illegal to use deadly force against a burglar unless he is threatening your life or the life of another person. I don't know for sure about California.
Here are some other scenarios where this homeowner could get into trouble:
- Burglar was unarmed, halfway out the door, and did not pose a threat.
- Burglar was cowering in the corner, wimpering, "Please don't kill me."
- Homeowner was a convicted felon, legally prohibited from touching a firearm to save his life.
- Homeowner had outstanding unrelated warrants.
- Police found other illegal activity such as drugs.
- Homeowner was an illegal immigrant.
BTW, many targets of home invasions are innocent victims, but sometimes they are drug dealers or otherwise involved in criminal activity. If a robber can get away with robbing a drug dealer, the victim is not likely to report the crime to the police. He may track down the robber and kill him, though.

Welcome back home cowboymd! Glad you returned safely, and enjoyed your visit.
What a horror story. I feel so badly for the law abiding citizens of CA, NY, IL, MA and others who makes it difficult, if not impossible for citizens to legally arm themselves and feel out of harms way and from persecution. Note I said persecution and not prosecution. All I can do is shake my head and wonder why.
It truly makes me appreciate daily, what a great state we live in. God bless Texas.

I've been unsuccessfully Googling trying to find more info. I'll contact the family to see if they have more detailed information on the case.
