My family road trip to California kicks off this weekend. One stop (likely on the return trip) will be to see wife's aunt and grandpa near Prescott, AZ. Got me thinking about Ruger, and wondering if their facilities are "open to the public" at all for a drop in visit/tour etc. I doubt I'll be able to convince my wife to let me do so anyway, but just wondering if it's even possible.

I glanced at their web site, but didn't find anything. Anyone know?

OK, nevermind. I just found my answer on Ruger's web site under the FAQ section. NO TOURS. Bummer.

Anyone have an "inside contact" at Ruger ?

Lucky I already bought my New Vaquero or if I had known this, I would not have bought it. That's just kinda the way I am......can't help it.........

But I will keep the New vaquero and shoot it as often as I can.

There is something near Prescott that may be more fun than a visit to Ruger- Gunsite is just north of Prescott.

Went years ago when they were just starting out. They have a full service gunsmith and shop there dealing with 1911's mostly, as well as the school.

Unfortunately, I can see Ruger's point. With all the undercover investigators of the MSM, I would be reluctant to allow them access, not to mention industrial espinonage. Maybe suggest to them to have an approved exhibit of the history of Ruger firearms. I do not like their decision, but in this litigious society, I fully understand. If you exclude everyone, there is no basis for a court case. No, I am NOT an attorney.

I understand why they don't do tours. Taking the public into an active manufacturing facility has a lot of risks and is a big hassle even for VIP tours. It would be nice if they have a little museum or gift shop for Ruger fans.

Prescott does have things for old west fans and there's a big ditch 100 miles north that's worth a look.

I had that saem hope when i first visited AZ in the 90's before moving here. The nice lady in reception sort of chuckled at me. She explained that they would need to field two more full-time employees to handle all of the requests that they get for that.

While at the NRA annual meeting this year I tried to buy a Galco belt at their booth. They didn't have my size at the show so I decided since their factory was in Phoenix, 4 blocks from where we were staying, I'd just drop by and browse their outlet store.

Good plan, poor execution. Same as Ruger. No tours, no outlet store. Drove by their plant and it was surrounded by a very nice looking 8 foot fence with a single entrance for employees. Too bad. I guess Phoenix is serious on plant security.

No.

It means that I would probably not buy anything from them but I would keep what I have. That's not too hard a line as it sounds since my buying days are most probably over. I already have all I want and more than I need.
