A great story about a kid going to a national skeet shooting competition with a loaned shotgun. Wish I could help the kid out, but I have all 870 pumps!


About three months ago, Dakotah’s parents sacrificed to buy him a truly competitive shotgun — a 12-gauge Perazzi, considered perhaps the world’s finest shotgun.

He didn’t get to keep it long, though. On July 2, his father, John, a subcontractor for the electric utility, stopped to eat lunch at a north-side restaurant. Someone bashed out the driver’s side window of his pickup, stole the navigation system and discovered a gun case on the back floorboard.

(His father had the shotgun because he was going to Saint Jo with Dakotah that afternoon.)

His father, in tears, had to call Dakotah.

"I just said, 'How can my gun be gone?’ " Dakotah said.

The police lifted fingerprints and found the thief’s blood in the truck, and the Richardsons provided the serial number to police and pawnshops. So far, they’ve heard nothing.

Not siding with the BG but....

What on earth was such a valuable shotgun left in an unattended vehicle for in the first place?

Isn't that why drive-thrus were invented?

I hope it was insured or better yet they catch the BG and recover the gun.

victims of "smash and grabs" are NOT responsible for the bad behaviour of others. We are quickly becoming a society than wants to share the blame with everyone for the actions of the lowest common denominator among us

Don't get me wrong, I am not siding with the bad guy but I am saying that what you SHOULD be able to do and what it is wise to do are two entirely different things.

I am not judging the guy, I am simply saying that I wouldn't leave such a valuable item (regardless of it being a firearm) unattended in my truck. I even lock things in a safe at home so maybe I am just paranoid.

Like I say, I hope he gets the gun back quickly or he has good insurance

My blood pressure rises when I read stories such as this, the thief should have a hand cut off. The gun owner deserves a dope slap......

I know if he has home owner insurance it may cover part of the loss,
however I am willing throw some money into the pot.

Anybody willing to throw in 50-100 for the kid?

No different than leaving a laptop or a pistol or a bag from Jared's on the floorboard.

When you stop doing that one, then you'll have room to blame the victim.

That was many, many moons ago and many, many things have changed since I last shot competitive trap.

It shows where we have gone in the last thirty or so years. Back then he could have left the gun in a gun rack with the windows down and the doors unlocked and the gun would have been there when he got back.
Today Society has gone to H in a handbasket. The bad part is that it is getting worse.

Gang. This guy was the victim here and we shouldn't blame him. Vehicle was locked and that is that. BG needs to get the brunt of our anger and blame.
