I'm helping some friends of mine move to GA next week.
what do I need to know to carry in GA. I believe my TX CHL is valid there.
I'm reading up on GA over at PDO, just looking for any additional insight you might have

You are right, we have full reciprocity with Georgia.

After reading about GA on PDO, they appear to be a mix of friendly and unfriendly.
Signs don't mean a thing, but you can't carry at any public building/gathering. which is a pretty darn vague definition.
Oh well, not everybody can live in TX

I remember a post on another board (Sigforum.com, I think) that a Georgia judge declared that Walmart was a public gathering, and, therefore, off limits to CCW. Be careful. Maybe an e-mail to Georgia's CHL people would be a good idea before you go.

well, I made it back in once piece. carried nearly 24hrs a day. nobody noticed and nobody stopped me.
I did send an email to GA and they replied that they didn't handle it anymore and sent me a link to the FBI.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but since one was already started on GA I thought I'd just piggyback.
I'm travelling to GA next week and had some questions about the "Publicly owned or operated buildings" clause under the "Public Gatherings" definition in GA statute 16-11-127.
I am interpreting "Publicly owned/operated buildings" to include those gov't buildings such as post-offices, but I figured those would fall under the federal building restriction. So maybe city/county/state gov't buildings? Or are we talking commercially owned businesses such as the WalMart that barres mentioned above. I'm still researching, but I thought I'd toss the question up to see if anyone already had solid intel.
Also - looks like GA has a prohibitory clause for public transportation such as busses or the MARTA system. Anyone have any insight?

I wish I had some insight to offer you. I spent 4days just north of Atlanta and carried everywhere I went. never had a problem. never saw any kind of a "no gun" sign.
as I stated above, I wasn't able to get ahold of anybody that would know whats going on. I probably should have stopped in at police station and asked them but never got a chance.
good news, don't have to worry about Alabama on the drive out there anymore!

I actually sold out and decided that I didn't want to deal with it on my first trip since the crazy new restrictions came down.
I think I may try to find someone while I'm out here though... I'll post any information I find.

Just came back from Atlanta. I found many pubilc places, The World of Coke, CNN center and some others have metal detectors at the front door. They could care less about your CHL. Be prepared to take trips back to the car if you want to do a lot of the tourist stuff.
You can not ride the Marta. The Georgia Packing site above is a great resource.

Any public transportation in Georgia, whether rail or bus, including stations, terminals, and bus stops, is not just off limits, but a
felony, with a 20-year max sentence.
