I am thinking about getting a new Sig but am curious to see if anyone has shot both or has any ideas about the Sig 250 vs. the Sig 226.

I'm not sure of caliber yet, but will pick a caliber that my wife can shoot if need be (probably end up with 9 or 40).

The state Troopers have switched to 250's, so I've heard they're the coolest new thing from a really cool company. I just can't decide which to get.

Any opinions?

I don't know whats best for you, but I'd love to have the 250, as a full size, compact, 9mm, .40 cal .45

Is there an SA version, like the P220 SAO? A single action only trigger pull isn't going to be that long.

No, it's DAO. The trigger seemed shorter than most double action triggers, however.....I'm not a fan of DAO pistols so that's why I went with the P226 in DA/SA. Just my $.02

I have somewhere around 8500 rounds through my 250 compact and truly like this handgun. The DAO trigger is a bit long but mastering it is no problem and it is very smooth, does not take a long time to figure out where it goes bang and it will be the same spot everytime. The plus is the caliber conversion kits, although they are hard to find, maybe Sig will one day release them in quantity to the market place.

I'm gonna have to stick with the good old P226. I've shot the P250 and it did not feel good to me at all. If you're looking for something a little more compact there is always the P229 which in my opinion is probably the best platform for a .40S&W round out there.

P226, it's a tried and true gun and will be around longer than the 250.

Good luck with your decision. I haven't shot either handgun but love my 229. It's a 357Sig with a .40 barrel. It feels fantastic in my hands. If you're looking for something with less kick for the wife, I'd stick with a 9mm. 40 has almost as much kick as 45. Some claim it's harsher.

I would say that the .40 has more of a kick whereas the .45 has more of a push.

Also the P229 is an awesome gun. I'll be selling a mint one pretty soon.
