Not exactly CHL Related but
this is the guy that has put all the road blocks in place
that prevent airline pilots from being armed.

I expect he will not be missed.

Given some of W's stuff lately, though, I would not put a lot of faith in who he replaces.

We get Federal Flight Deck Officers (armed airline pilots) in all of the time to practice. What did I miss?

We have armed pilots (federal flight deck officers) but
we would have had a lot more if Mineta had not put Speed Humps in the way.

Mineta did an amazing job of sabotaging the Federal Flight Deck Officers program.

Fortunately congress really fought for the program.

Considering that Mineta must have known better than almost anybody about the TSA's ineffectiveness of preventing weapons/bombs from getting onboard aircraft... I've always wondered about who's side the guy was on.

There are lot's of articles explaining the "speed humps" Mineta and the TSA put in the way of arming the pilots.

Here is a article that talks more about No-Profiling Mineta. It reminds me of an email I received (a few less than 100 times) that described all the times young Muslim men have attacked the US.

Good article Tom. Mineta's past was clouding his judgement. It's scary that post 911 the government has been asking us to sacrifice our liberties and then let someone like Mineta do what he did with airline security.

I'm against internment too, but Mineta was off the deep end.

He and TSA have been hammered pretty hard for not profiling the kinds of folks that actually hijack airlines.


Until 9/11, I was pretty adamant that police should NOT profile. However, back then, they only thing they seemed to be profiling for was drugs, guns, and money. Laws that I have argued against.

Now that "the bad guys" are killing (or plotting to kill) Americans by the hundreds, I am in favor of profiling that group. Of course, I am in favor of requiring that folks in that group to wear disposable travel clothes that were issued and changed into at the airport.

I think all US Law Enforcement officals and CHL holders should be REQUIRED to be armed when traveling.

As a pilot, I hate to see him go. He has been good to general aviation which is as important to private pilots as 2A issues are to gunowners. As a politcial appointee, it is tough to please everyone.

Your heavy equipment brethren would disagree. They, the ones locked in the cockpit at the controls, have been searched and shaken and prodded and stripped, just to make sure they can't hijack the plane. Say what???

Mineta may have been "good" to GA, but that doesn't excuse his other idiocies. Just like the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act is "good" to me; I don't excuse the denial of others' 2A rights just because I get to exercise mine.
