After hanging around this forum since early this year, visiting other CHL & Concealed Carry forums, and visiting with CHL friends, there is one thing for certain. I wouldn't want to work in the CHL Division of DPS for NOTHING. No way, no how. I wouldn't want to deal with the 100's (maybe 1000's) of daily phones from frustrated and angry applicants, from Legislator's offices, or the Governor’s Office. I don't know how those DPS people remain polite and don't go postal. They have sure been kind and helpful to me. I'm taking my hat off as a sign of respect for those folks.

Enough said.

I agree the workers seem to do a good job all things considered. The problem seems to be in management. First in making policy and procedures that slow down processing by going beyond what's required by law. Second in not staffing to meet the demand. By management I mean not just CHL division administration but all the way to the top.

Well put Viffer! I totally agree. They have a job to do, and it's not their fault that the workload is twice(or thrice for that matter) as what the management of the CHL division budgeted for. They are only human, and can only do what they can do. The pressure they are under must be close to unbearable. My hats off to them.

I just retired from Tx.Dept.of Criminal Justice,and I feel that all state employees are under more pressure ,in the last few years.They are not promoting supervisors with experience,rather wanting upper management that are buisness-minded.Everything is about production, as in the buisness world.Most all State agencys are under -staffed and overloaded.I think that a lot of it is polititions giving thereselves raises and there is no more money to expand the agencys that are overworked and underpaid.

Sound like my job now.... too much work and no help...but remember teamwork blah blah blah....
