Convicted felon’s right to own gun reinstated.
According to a ruling Friday, the N.C. Supreme Court has deemed a 2004 law barring convicted felons from possessing a firearm — even in their homes — unconstitutional.

Good. There is no benefit to harassing and marginalizing people after they are released. Felons need to be able to protect themselves and their families just like everyone else.

Dont know how I feel about this. I am starting to think that a felon should not be able to own firearms within 2 years of completing there confinement. If the felon commits any crime after release above a class C than they loose the right for 5 years first offense, 10 with the second, and third offence after being released would bar a felon from firearm ownership all together.

Just my .02 guys ...

Whats is a felon though? would I feel bad if Martha Stewart, or Scooter Libby were allowed to have guns, How about Vics? is it write to disarm these people? Who never hurt anyone.

Jimmy Hoffa couild still be alive today if he were aloud to arm himself. We things Felonies today that once wasn't even a crime. There are a lot of felonies that aren't about violence,

Shux if our our laws made sense I might not be as sypathetic to some crimminals, I just found out we made criminals out of adult backseat riders who don't wear seat belts, but we reduced restrictions on Motorcycle riders wearing helmets, Our children don't have to wear seatbelts in the back seat though. In fact most times they don't even have any seatbelts to wear.

If we are setting them "free" then they should be just that: "free".

If they are still dangerous they should still be in prison. If they can never again be trusted to be safe in society, then they should be subjected to the death penalty.

Either we believe that incarceration and rehabilitation in prison works, or we don't. Let the libs who oppose the death penalty and stronger sentences put their money where their mouth is and allow those who have "paid their debt to society" to enjoy the same freedoms as the rest of us.

I have mixed feelings on this. I feel if a firearm was used to commit the crime, or if they were convicted of a violent crime against a person, then they should lose their rights to own firearms period. White collar and non-violent criminals should be allowed to regain their rights.

I agree, the only ones we are keeping unarmed are the ones following the law.

As of September 1, this is no longer the case in TX.

:iagree:
i was a "felon" early in my life .
it wasn't aggravated , but it was a serious charge .
some of us make mistakes and learn from them .

i was fortunate enough to be given deferred adjudication which wiped away the felony charge .
i paid my debt to society with several years of probation and fines and was given a second chance.

i don't consider myself a threat .

Was too early in the morning for me, I was thinking about the school buses th children ride in, while adults are now required to wear seatbelts in the back of a passanger car.

Oops. I thought felons not being able to possess a gun was a federal law.

I, too, have conflicting thought on this. Maybe we could restrict the possession of a gun for felons that committed certain types of crimes and those that have committed any crime where a gun was involved. By a bad guy, I mean. You know, maybe I didn't have a gun when we held up that store, but my partner did.

I wonder if they also restored their right to vote. Isn't that one of the other things you lose when convicted of a felony? Wouldn't that be something? You can have a gun, but you can't vote.

From my perspective a felon is a felon, and until another classification of a crime is instituted then that is the way it is. Even though some crackhead served his time I still do not believe they should legally be allowed to own a gun. Any crime involviing violence is another reason, at what point are they rehabilitated? Personally I do not want my loved ones to find out the hard way..... don't do the crime if ya cannot do the time, plain and simple I am against felons legally possessing firearms.
