I was watching some Guns and Ammo t.v. and thought I'd share this clip. Comments and experiences welcomed and appreciated.
Personally I'm a traditionalist when it comes to ammo in that bigger is usually better(not always but usually).

There are times when you can't carry a 9mm and you can carry a .380.

At those times, the .380 is better :)

At the times when you can carry either one, the 9mm is better.

I suppose there are reasons why one might choose a .380 instead of a 9mm even if the size and weight of the gun are approximately the same, such as lower recoil. But in most cases it seems the cheaper, more abundant, and more effective 9mm is a better choice.

I say this with a .380 on me right now and my 9mm pistols at the house.

I carry a Ruger .380 99% of the time. I have a beretta 9mm and a Ruger .45 all are nice weapons and all are leathal. I carry the .380 because it's easy to conceal, easy to draw and I can still wear my favorite Tee Shirt. As for the bullet count, if you get in a situation where you need more that 6 shots you're either out gunned and in a bad way or you're a terrible shot and hopefully will live to get the the range and practice more. And I carry an extra clip....Just in case..

Elsie can be a handful....but, she is what she is. And she is always there (except inside my buildings at work and inside the buildings of school)...and that is 7/4ths the battle (did I mention that I am NOT a math major?)

Being a traditionalist, I have to go with the best gun is the one you have with you when you need it.

In comparing the two rounds, I have to honestly say I feel comfortable carrying either one for defense. The .380 has the advantage, as the video points out, in concealability (usually, but this may be changing). The 9mm has the advantage in energy and momentum for the round doing its job, plus the advantage of capacity (usually). So, for me it comes down to carrying a 380 when I need total concealment (my NAA Guardian fits in my pocket and no one will know) and the larger gun when I can carry larger (I used to carry a Hi-Power for a plainclothes gun with SAPD).

And of course, when I can carry a real gun without worrying about concealment or rules/regulations, I carry my 1911. I told you I was a traditionalist.

Be bold and pack both!

I got a kick out of the closing comment... "Well if bigger is what you need to make you feel like a man...."...LOL...I wonder if right after the video shut down he smacked the little guy on the side of the head...LOL.

Of course the real BIG differnce is that you can actually find 9mm ammunition!

I have a NAA Guardian .380 that is usually in my pocket or in a small compartment in my car. I love the little gun, although I admit it is a little heavy. All stainless steel and the milling is excellent. The slide is actually made by Kahr. As a personal defense weapon it is strictly back up; but it's there when my Millennium Pro .45 isn't. My only complaint is the ammo problem. Lately the only ammo I have been able to find is FMJ range ammo - and it is expensive. Real defensive rounds are no where to be found - as far as I can see. If anyone knows where I can get some jhp rounds in .380 I would love to hear about it.

Yeah those chuckle heads at the ranges really unhinge me sometimes about that stuff. What was it that that Chief of Bone Heads said, never let a good crisis go to waste or something like that. Just like gas stations, gun ranges always seem to have ammo in a "shortage" but its gonna cost ya.
Heck, I wouldn't b suprised if it got to the point where we were forced to have to start financeing ammo. I know they gotta make a buck too. It just seems opportunistic to me. Like selling icecubes in the middle of a heat wave.

I think we have to be fair about the Ranges.. They are having the same problems getting ammo as the rest of us. The only difference is that us shooters are forced to go to the range less often, while the Range owners are forced to beg and wait in line to scrounge for every box the can get.
It does seem like things are slowly getting better though.
