Marksman Range Report

Today the good lady and I had to seek an indoor venue for our shooting fun due to the much welcome rainy weather.

Last time we shot indoors was at Pasadena Gun Center and we were not too happy about the place so we went to Marksman is South Houston.

We arrived there and all the lanes were busy but it seemed like the lane opened up before we were even able to get sat down in the waiting area. I would say we were "waiting" for less than the time it took my wife to visit the restroom.

We took 3 guns and the conversion kit for the Glock 19. (Actually we had 4 guns there but one was kept concealed :coolgleamA: ) Total cost $16

It was a little cramped because we were both put on the one lane but we essentially took turns in shooting.

Our enjoyment was somewhat spoiled by the man shooting to our immediate left as his 45 shells kept on jumping over the partition and his hot brass kept hitting us. Of course these things happen but his seemed to be every shot!

The lanes were pretty busy and I was really pleased to see one of Houston's finest getting some target practice in. (She was a pretty good shot too).

Several people were blasting away with what I can only assume was a fully automatic handgun and that was funny to see as he was plastering them all over the place. It looked like the safest place to be was right in front of his target! But it looked like fun and I wanted to have a go too....but I didn't.

All told we shot about 250 rounds through the guns and I was happy with my target and I was especially pleased that the Glock 30 shot really well and the missus handled it just fine. She was a little concerned that it was too much gun for her but she felt it kicked less than the 38 Special she shot one time. My wife tried to take some pictures but the rude hot brass man glared her down for it so she stopped.....sorry no proof that I shot the snot out of the middle of the target :smilelol5: .

All told it was a pretty good outing (despite mr Rude Hot Brass) but my wife was a little disappointed in her groupings but as I pointed out....they were all center mass. :fire

I would certainly recommend the range, especially if it is raining.

Now to clean the firearms and update the records. :anamatedbanana

Wonder no more.....it did! But at least it was her own casing. One strategic safety pin later and she was good to go. "rlol"

Me and a group of friends went yesterday and it was more than worth the drive. I live in League City (less than 3 miles from Clear Creek Gun Range) and it sure beats the local outdoor ranges...It's much cheaper too. $8...they don't charge by the gun and only charge for targets. The 4 of the $1 silhouette targets lasted me for over an hour. One of our group did have a problem with hot casing jumping over the partitions. However, that's pretty much a problem where ever you go.

+2 on my favorite range.

I live in Frienswood less than a mile from a shooting range and I pass it up for Marksman.

Took my new taticle 12 ga in there last night with a friend and his 12 ga taticle and we shot a couple of boxes of shells with no problem.

The guys behind the counter are really nice and even assisted my shooting partner when his 12 jammed.

I live right near S Shepherd and Richmond ave, and gladly make the trip to S Houston to shoot at Marksman. I, too, took my CHL class with Jim Hoge- great guy and great teacher. Back to the range- the guys behind the counter are really friendly and the range rates are fair. I'm sure I'll be there sometime again this week!

Another +1 for Marksman. Super friendly, inexpensive, *and* they're the only indoor range I've found in Houston that allows shotguns.

Now, if I could just practice drawing from the holster & shooting, I'd be in 7th heaven.

Guess, we'll have to settle for 6th Heaven. I started shooting there in 1964 when Tom Mixon ran it. I haven't been there since the late seventies, but it is still just as friendly as when he ran it. I think they still have the same target hangers; I don't know if that's possible. . We had to crank them by hand back then
I don't know who operates the range now but they continue the tradition. The interior has been upgraded of course but it felt like the same old place and very reasonable priced. I took my youngest daughter for her first shooting outing and the folks were so nice to her. She had a blast and I think we have a new shooting enthusiast among us. I would recommend Marksman for any family shooting forays. I have been to ranges where you felt they were doing you a favor letting you be in their presence.

Way back when we did have some interesting after hours shooting :fire at Marksman and Tom gave us a lot of leeway testing loads and "stuff" :evil2: . I do most of my shooting at PSC now but Marksman is close to me and convenient during inclement weather and I will definitely be back again. I shoot at Bullseye on Cedar Ridge in Duncanville when I visit my pldest daughter in Grand Prairie. They seem to be nice folks also.
