Khar CW9 Advice

I have been looking for a gun for my wife and we cane upon a Khar CW9. She has shot my Kimber 9mm with no problem and even has shot my Khar PM9 which did not bother her, in fact for some unknown reason the double action trigger seemed to help her. In other words the CW9 seems to fit her. (I have never had trouble with my PM9.) But does any body have any experience with the CW9 ?? I still question polymer frames.
Thanks, Norman

You might want to check the forums applicable:

old one: http://glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=111" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
new one: http://kahrtalk.com/kahr-firearms-sub-forums/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Lots of CW9 info contained therein.

CW9 is basically identical to a P9 except for a few minor differences, mostly the rifling is different and the milling of the slide is a little different. P9 has dovetailed front sight, CW9 is pinned. Otherwise the frame, trigger, and slide internals are identical.

There is no reason to be apprehensive about a poly frame gun. Many manufacturers have been making them for decades and they are among the most reliable of all guns.

Kahr CW9s (and all Kahrs, to some extent) seem to have a set of kind of well-known issues that occur some small amount of the time. I posted a detailed discussion of it here:

http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 45#p317821" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My own CW9 is currently at Kahr for the second time, this is the third RMA (one I fixed myself with parts they sent me), basically trying to fix the same issues (light strikes & mag dropping).

As I sit here writing this I am packing a CW9. I have had this pistol for over a year and have had absolutely NO problems with it at all. I put the recommended 300 rounds through it before I started carrying it and have shot several IDPA BUG matches with it and also a regular match ( it was 4 stages ) with it. I can't say I have put it through a meat grinder ( 1,000 rounds in an hour , that sort of thing ) but I have had no feeding problems or any other kind of problems with this pistol. It carries well inside the waist band and has very little weight. It is very accurate and quick second and third rounds are no problem. If you decide to purchase one for your wife, I hope you have as much luck with yours as I have had with mine.

I've had a CW9 for about 2 months. Only 365 rounds through it so far, but they have been quite a mixed variety. Not one single malfunction of any kind. With such a low round count, I hate to give it the five star recommendation, but so far it has become my favorite IWB carry (I also have Kimber, Sig and S&W available for carry). Accuracy has been great, and field stripping and cleaning is very easy. Quality is apparant.

I had a similar pistol for a while, a Kahr P9.

That wretched piece of rubbish was the worst pistol it's ever been my displeasure to own - worse than a Colt Government Model Jammamatic I once owned.

Problems included:

* Chatter marks in barrel.
* Slide locked back prematurely.
* Slide failed to go into battery.
* Trigger failed to actuate striker.
* Trigger pin walked out.

Kahr did try to fix it, I'll give them that, putting them head and shoulders above Colt in my estimation. Untimately Kahr gave up and replaced the pistol . . . but I traded the replacement for a Glock 26. Not as neat a package, but the Glock works.

+1 on the CW9, I have not had any issues with mine (~800 rounds).

However, just like the Chevy-vs-Ford debate, Kahrs have either a love or hate relationship. :cool:
