Does anyone know what make and model handgun DPS Troopers carry on duty these days ?
Son has decided to apply for entrance into the DPS Academy when he graduates from College in a year. Thought I might surprise him with whatever make and model the DPS is carrying these days so we can get a lot of range time in between now and then.
He turned 21 in Feb., received his CHL several months later. We enjoy range time together and he is a darn good shooter too !

Ya might also want to look into finding an aftermarket .40 barrel.
Unless ya got a way to get taxpayers to pick up the tab for that .357Sig ammo.
And find some real good ear protection. 'dem puppies are LOUD.

The SIG 226 in .357 SIG is standard.
I have heard the SIG 229 also in .357 is also issued for some uses... according to some for troopers "of small stature" what ever that may be... it is possible they mean the 229 is the ladies gun (though it can hardly be called small.)
FWIW

Yeah.... I would say they are anything but small... : ) I would think the P239 would be the way to go for smaller hands but I guess the single stack mag would be the reason why not...
Any LEO's out there carry the P239?
I have a friend that is in the Secret Service and she carries a P229.

If you got him a 229, which is a little shorter than the 226, he can practice with it and latter use it for off duty. Once he becomes proficient with the 229, the longer 226 issued by DPS will be easy to qualify with since it has a longer sight radius.
