Check into the local 4-H club. Many of them have a shooting sports contingent. I spent my entire 4-H 'career' on the shooting sports team, taking 2nd in state in postal league competition twice in the mid-80's.

It will also give you a chance to be really involved with him. My dad was the 'coach' of our postal league group for a while, and I'm waiting for my son to turn 9 so he can join 4-H and we can do it all over again. Right now, my old rifle (Mossberg 144-LSB) is too big for him, but he'll grow into it eventually.

Boy Scouts will be another place to check for shooting sports for kids activities.

If you can't find any perhaps this is an opportunity for you to start one? NRA is a good place to get info.

There is also a 4H group from Plano that shoots regularly (weekly) out at the Dallas Pistol Club.
Same contact person as the Shooting Stars group at DPC.

+1 on 4H :iagree:

Our gun club in Beaumont has an active junior program through 4H. Look for clubs associated with CMP they often have junior programs too.

Nothing like starting a kid to shoot right. My early shooting came through DCM the precursor of CMP.

Thank you and my son thanks you. This young man can shoot and def knows the safety rules. I asked a while back if he wanted to do any sports once we moved to Texas. His answer was no thanks dad but I would love to join a shooting club. Made my eyes water up .
