SAN ANTONIO -- A 24-year-old man who was shot in a home invasion died shortly after he crashed his Jeep a few blocks from the home, sheriff's officials said.
Deputy Ino Badillo, a Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said that Cardell Deon Joseph broke into a home in the 11400 block of South Foster Road at 5 a.m and was surprised by the homeowner, who shot Joseph.
Bleeding from a wound to his side, Joseph jumped into his Jeep for a getaway. But less than a mile away, he lost control of the SUV and crashed through a fence and rolled into the front yard of a home, Badillo said.
The residents of the home said that Joseph, who appeared intoxicated, stumbled out of his vehicle, Badillo said.
He then told the residents to "get me to a hospital" and then he died, Badillo said.
An autopsy will be performed.
