I've signed up to take a NRA instructor course for rifle and shotgun. Its through my sons scout troup and I'm an adult leader so I qualify for a healthy class discount.
Has anyone here taken it? What can I expect?

I took the Basic Pistol Instructor one a few years ago. It was very professional and informative and focused strongly on safety, attitude, and reinforcement of good firearm handling behaviors. I thought the material distributed with the class, and later available to you as an instructor was a little dated with circa 1980's clothing/surroundings in the photos.
Granted, this was pistol vs. rifle, but actually the curriculum encompasses basic firearms for all the courses. Also, there was range time focusing on how to safely instruct in a hot range environment, with the emphasis again on safety of the prospective students. I never did end up teaching, so I let my certificate lapse. I had been thinking about teaching for Scouting or youth, but soon realized that "pistol" is almost always for adult students. Let me know how your rifle class comes out.
