When an armed robber barged into a North Side motel room Wednesday night and ordered the six people there to the floor, he put a 70-year-old woman closer to her handgun.

The great-grandmother knelt between the beds, reached into her purse on the floor and pulled out her .357 Magnum pistol.

...The woman has a permit to carry a concealed gun, her son said, and carries the gun she inherited from her late husband...

She fired one shot at the robber, who staggered from the room, collapsed in the parking lot and died.
So far so good (altho I still think a purse is a lousy place to carry your gun)...
"It's a wonder she didn't shoot us all," said her 51-year-old son, who was preparing to hand over his cash when he heard the gunshot. "She's the worst shot in the world.
Even if true, he is a fool for saying this. Get that bar of soap...
"I was going into my pocket for money" when a shot rang out and the gunman ran from the room, the son said. "I thought I was shot. I didn't realize my mother had shot him. It was mass chaos."

He still wasn't sure what had happened when he went outside and saw the intruder's body in the parking lot. Then he heard a second shot. His mother, the gun at her side, had tensed up and "squeezed off another shot into the floor," he said.
Trigger discipline, Grams, trigger discipline. But at least you got rule 2 right. (And this is why there's more than one rule. ;-) )
Columbus police don't expect to file charges against the woman...
as it should be
...but said the case probably will be presented to a Franklin County grand jury as a routine procedure. The son said the officers who met with his family were "extremely supportive."
I think Grams was way more on top of things than her son or anyone else in the room...

Way to go grandma! It doesn't look like she had any problem drawing on someone that already had the drop on her. :clapping:

If a 70 year old woman can out-draw a drawn gun, especially with a .357 Magnum   Then I think that about sums up the 'you can't win against a drawn gun' arguement... :smilelol5: :thumbs2:

The man has no class - graceless, ungrateful little twerp.
the worst shot in the world is apparently good enough to take out a bg :fire :fire

She fooled them all. Nobody had a clue of what she had or was capable of doing. I'll bet that BG never looked at her for more than a second during the entire time he was in control. She didn't hesitate on pulling the trigger either. :tiphat:

When the frail, elderly one starts making arcane gestures with a shiny talisman, it's time to leave. :biggrinjester:

A man shot and killed by a 70-year-old woman he was trying to rob in a North Side motel room was wanted in Missouri.

An arrest warrant was issued in August for Wayne M. Winston, 25, because he moved out of state without permission while on probation, said Jacqueline Lapine, a spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The probation came after a December 2008 arrest in St. Louis County for first-degree tampering with a vehicle, a felony.

Winston had just been released from prison in September 2008 after serving seven years for crimes that included second-degree burglary, stealing a firearm, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and three counts of stealing a motor vehicle, Lapine said.
Did they give him probation this time because seven years in prison obviously didn't work? :headscratch

I don't think probation will be necessary.
She fired one shot at the robber, who staggered from the room, collapsed in the parking lot and died.

"she was the worst shot in the world" - Alleged by unarmed relative.

"One shot, one kill." - In actuality, grandma's performance lived up to the sniper's motto.

Rock on there, .357 grandma.

Doesn't this just tee off you .45 fans? :-)

I haven't heard anyone say the .357Mag was ineffective. Even Dirty Harry called it "a good weapon."

When he tried to rob them he was on probation. For a crime committed after he got out of prison.

Prison and probation didn't work. But he won't be committing any more crimes now. Will he?

Ah!
I thought you hadn't read the article carefully. Turns out that I was the one who missed something.
But either way, no. He won't need prison, probation, parole, dental care or anything else.
