On sites that list FFLs I'll see Jim's Guns, 823 S Laredo St, San Antonio. Ran by there today after work and it was Automotive-Truck Parts Co Inc. Looks like it's been there a while. Closed by the time I got there so couldn't ask. Anybody know anything about the place? Closed and gone? Just transfers? Etc?

I've used them twice and they are real nice...fast too! They weren't nice the first go-round, but once they realized I was a repeat customer, they were nicer.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know the others. I was just going by there to check it out and found the parts store, but the several FFL listings I'd found seem to indicate it was still in business so I was wondering if anybody knew anything about Jim's.

I know nothing about Jim's. But I know several people who have FFLs but operate a business that deals very little with firearms.
If a Texan wishes to purchase a handgun in Hobbs, NM, 5 miles across the state line, and the closest gun stores for several small towns in West Texas, the stores will take your pistol to Seminole Butane, a fuel distribution place 30 miles or so into Texas, where the owner has an FFL and a safe but no guns on display for sale. About all he does is FFL transfers and special orders. It looks like the last place in the world you would just wonder in to looking for a gun.
I doubt that's what's going on at Jim's, but you never know.

mgood: Actually Seminole has 4 FFLs I know of. The first is the above mentioned, the Second who also does a lot of transfers for at least one store in Hobbs is Brown's Ace Hardware, the third is K&W Trading located in the front of an auto-repair shop, and the fourth is pretty much a "service for friend's only" type business as of late. mwood you should PM me next time you plan to be in the Seminole Texas area.

I suspect the OP's request about the business falls into one of three categories: The first is like Seminole Butane where its a transfer business, the second is like K&W trading where its a separate business inside the auto business, and the third is that it was one of the first two but is no longer in business.

+1 on Wetmore. I've used that one twice also, no complaints. Been a couple years.

As far as Jim's -- I've run across a few FFLs listed in San Antonio that seem to run "low-overhead" businesses out of their homes or whatnot -- usually bill themselves as specialist in some niche but willing to order anything. Maybe Jim's is one of those. Never heard of him tho.

+1 on Wetmore. I've been using them for five years (five transfers, and I took their CHL class - $60).
