Do they really get 1040 fps/379 ft.-lbs. ME from a 158 grain LSWCHP gas-checked bullet from a two inch snub, as claimed???

Bump. Surely somebody has some experience with this gas checked round. Sounds like it could be outside the design parameters of +P 38 Special and in the low end of 357 MAGNUM territory.

I have the impression that everything they make runs hot. I wouldn't be surprised.

I did find somewhere on the web someone had chronographed the stuff and it meet published specs. I didn't save the link though.

1143 fps @ 458'/lbs from a three inch Ruger SP101 is as good as it gets with 38 Special, and outdoes any other downloaded 357 MAG round like the Remington Golden Saber. It absolutely amazing that this 158 grain "FBI" load, which has been around for years at lower velocities, seemingly renders everything else on the market obsolete in lightweight revolvers.

I've never chronographed it, but I do carry it in my S&W Model 60-7. The recoil, while not unmanageable, is substantial with the factory boot grips. I'm not sure I would want to shoot it out of a lighter gun, but to each his own. Subjectively, I'd judge it performs the way they say it will, and the quality seems top-notch in all the ammo from them I've tried (mostly .38, 357 mag, and 10mm).

Is the round still within 38 Special SAMMI specs? :headscratch

It's shaping up at the ideal load for the 38 Special Model 315 Night Guard with a 2.5 inch barrel. Lower end 357 MAG ballistics from a concealable twenty-four ounce six shot K frame. The so called Glock Perfection could take a back seat to that combination.

They make two rounds with the same bullet, a standard-pressure at 850 fps, and the +P you're referencing at 1040. They are both within specs for their pressure class.
