I just went to the Range Orientation at the ARC last Sunday. While it is a bit out of town, it is close enough to me since I am in North Austin. They have a pretty good set up. Only thing I wish they had was a skeet option. There is a reciprocal agreement at Cap City Trap across 290 from ARC. They have plenty of room to dial in your rifle and also have several pistol options. They even have a dedicated .22 range for me and my oldest Daughter to shoot her old (50s) Winchester 77 .22 rifle that she borrowed from her Paw Paw. I think I will teach her to shoot with sights, she does fairly well already, then maybe put a scope on it for added fun.

They also have a Silhouette range that sounds like a lot of fun. Gotta get some silhouettes and give it a try. All in all seems like a hell of a deal to be part of a club with other like minded people and full access to the range with key card access. $120/yr for myself, wife and daughter.

I'm not, but I'm considering it now since they now hold USPSA competitions.

I new to the Austin area and have been looking for a good place to displace some 357sig. Is ARC anything like PSC in friendswood TX?

Any other options other than $120/year? I'm in Cedar Park, and that's a stretch for me to drive. It's type of place I might go if I'm heading that way anyway, but not sure I'd get there more than a few times per year.

If not a "pay per use" is there at least a "try it before you buy it" where I could go, shoot once for XX dollars, and then sign up if I really love the place?

Well eagles peak is right off 1431. While they do not have a try it first option its a pretty decent range and its $20 the first visit. Thats $10 for the lifetime membership card and $10 for your first use of the range. Then anytime you go back its just $10 for all day. You can leave and come back the same day and not have to pay again. Along with the rifle and pistol ranges they have to clay launchers as well. On busy weekends it can be a little bit of a pain when they call cease fire to often to let new people coming in post targets, but overall its not bad.

you don't have to be a member of ARC to participate in USPSA, it doesn't even get you a discount. The USPSA matches are run by Austin Lone Star Practical Pistol Club (ALSPPC.org) and they pay ARC to use their ranges.

attend a USPSA or a IDPA match for $20 at ARC and you can look it over and ask questions. or make friends with a ARC member and you can go with them for two visits, free.

There's always Red's indoor range, for like $14/hour.

The $120 includes my wife and oldest daughter as associate members.

I'm a big fan of Lone Star in Lockhart. However, I got a new reloader for Christmas and would like to be able to pick up my brass after shooting again. Also, ARC is considerably closer to me, and I'd be able to make a trip to the range after work with enough time to get some shooting in before dark.

I actually went through orientation at ARC around 3 years ago and never followed through, as I lost my job and didn't have the cash to send in with the app. I need go through the process again.

gclooney: In answer to your question: yes, it is similar in many ways from what I've seen of both places. ARC seems to be more spread out and open, while PSC had more trees and the areas were more secluded from each other.

It's $100 for a single member. You can add your spouse and additional family members for $10 each, or get a family membership for $150. I hear and read a lot of grumbling about the $100 yearly fee, , but there are other options. Eagle Peak as memtioned in another post, or Red's at $20 per hour. All things considered, the $100 fee for unlimited access doesn't look that bad after all.

I think $100 a year is a bargain, personally.
