I've got a CZ-75B that's about to turn two years old, and I'm having some trouble with the slide release. If the slide is locked back when I insert a charged magazine, the slide is releasing and snapping forward on it's own. Best I can tell, the force from me slamming the mag into the frame is causing the slide to disengage from the release. If I insert the mag gently, the slide will remain locked. Likewise I can cause the slide to release without inserting a mag by slapping the butt of the gun with enough force.

Is this anything to be concerned about? Even though the slide releases, the hammer stays cocked, so there's no discharge. Any thoughts on what might be causing this or how I can fix it?

Might the recoil spring have been weakened already by lots of rounds sent downrange? Not enough 'oomph' left in the spring to hold the tension on the release tight enough? That's all I've got as a suggestion.

I had a Glock 21 that did that - I kinda liked it. Didn't have to worry about slingshoting it. Your CZ's 'slide stop' may be worn if you have used it exclusively to release the slide. If you replaced the recoil spring with higher lb springs - that could wear it as well from the extra pressure. It is a debate (http://www.officer.com/web/online/On-th ... e/21$36789) that will not end - but I believe using the slingshot method will wear your weapon less than using the slide stop.

I know a lot of shooters that would like to have your problem, but if you want to change it, I would first try another slide stop/release. Borrow one off another CZ of your own or if you don't have another one maybe a friends. If this fixes the problem, purchase another, there cost is normally not to expensive.

That's how I feel. Next time I take it apart for cleaning, I'll look at the slide and stop.

I guess my inexperience/lack of knowledge has bubbled up. With every semiautomatic (all 3),new and used, that I have had sufficient time to find out about, slamming the magazine in caused the slide to release. I thought that was normal operation.

I used to have this problem with one of my guns. Turned out it was a weak magazine spring. If the spring doesn't push hard enough the follower can't raise the slide lock far enough. The result is that banging a fresh magazine in is enough force to dislodge the slide lock. Before you go messing with slide locks, pick up a new magazine and see if the problem goes away.
