Hi All,
I'm a new CHL holder (Plastic didn't get here yet but the status on the website is already active).

I want to buy a new holster and an XDM 9mm.

the question is should I get it now? wait to B. Friday (do they even have sales on guns/holsters/ammo?)
wait till just before/after Christmas? does it even worth the wait?

I live in Plano so if you know of a good place or a sale someone is having in the area I'll appreciate the heads-up.

I don't recall of ever hearing any Black Friday gun sales... but if you find any, let me know!

I'd recommend purchasing one now, as what good is a CHL if you have nothing to carry!
Especially during the holiday shopping season... Everywhere packed with People!

The XDm's are nice pieces of BT.
I much prefer them over the 'other ones' , but the best gun for you, is the one that works the best for you :)

One thing to keep in mind about buying holsters is that if you decide on a good quality custom holster, the holster maker might not have it in stock and will have to make one for you, and sometimes the wait time is a month or maybe even longer.

Of course that's not true for a ready made, off the shelf holster. Just my thoughts

Best advice I've seen on this, I think was from LT

Buy one off the shelf that WORKS now, and order your 'dream' custom rig at the same time.

That way, you'll have something that will work until you get your custom rig 6-9 months later.

Firearm prices are not going to go down in the foreseeable future.

I monitor online auctions on certain pieces. They either get bid up to ridiculous prices or start out so high that no one bids (I'm talking about asking prices like $900 for a .22 pistol).

However, it seems a few initial buyers of LCPs are selling them now that the enthusiasm has worn off.

Academy occasionally has a "value" brand like Taurus for a reasonable reduced price.

I'm also in the DFW area, Bachman Gun and Pawn (Northwest Hwy in Dallas) has a good selection and I have seen sales on some of the guns in the store. Academy also has good prices compared to other gun stores in the area.

When you do shop holsters, make sure you get one that covers the trigger guard to avoid any mishaps (ND). Some instructors and schools say to avoid the SERPA holsters as the release is depressed with the trigger finger and could result in a ND. I have never used one, but can see the logic in avoiding that design, others may (and probably will) disagree.

My carry holsters (IWB and OWB) are from Comp-Tac, good quality and customer service is outstanding (I have no affiliation except as a satisfied customer )

Second th Academy prices very good selection decent most have had several XD's, as well as assorted Taurus, Glock, Sig, S&W, even an occasional Colt Defender. Limited holster choice usual Uncle Mike's better selection for the XD, 1911 styles, Glocks, and Sig products. Nothing wrong with the Uncle Mikes for temporary til you find the right leather or kydex for more permanent solution. Added benefit Mon-Wed-Fri they get their ammo in so very good day to go look around.

Each stores selections are slightly different I pass 5 on my commute & have then on speed dial so I can check ammo to figure out which one to go see and leave money at.

I've seen glowing reviews about the Taurus PT709. It's a slim-line (single-stack, I think) 9mm that conceals VERY well. It it were me, I'd get something with more punch, like a Glock 36 or a Taurus PT745 (.45 ACP sub-compacts).

Not sure where you ae bu my local gun shows have the largest selection and the best prices on Glock & Springfield handguns. I was seen the compact Glocks for $450 ish the last time I was there. I didn't look at the XD line because they don't interest me.

Not everyone can be lucky or skilled enough to own a Glock. (In reference to dicion's comments)

There are 2 typse of Taurus owners: those few that have had no problems, and then the rest of us. I would not recommend using any Taurus semi-auto as a CCW. Do some reading around the net and you'll learn all about the broken safeties, slide stops, and other issues. And it's not like Taurus has a glowing reputation for customer service either. I know this first hand. I don't know anything about thier revolvers.

If it were me, I'd spend the little extra and go with a reputable brand such as glock, bersa, kahr, kimber (ultra) or SA (XD or LCP).

FWIW, I'd go to a Gun Show, Gander Mtn. and/or Academy, etc. for the touchy-feelies. Then, in all liklihood, I wold order (once again) what I wanted from http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. That purchase decision hangs entirely upon availability and price and assumes that the piece was not competitively available locally.

BTW, other than being a thrice satisfied customer, I have no fiduciary or other interest in Bud's Gun Shop.

They make holsters for a wide variety, they are excellent kydex or kydex/leather holsters, they generally ship very fast (days, not weeks), and have excellent customer service.

Check out Bullet Trap in downtown Plano. It is off Ave K near the What-A-Burger. They have a lot of rental guns so you could try out a few before buying them. BT does run sales on handguns at various times. I have purchased a few handguns from them and the prices they charge are right with everyone else....give or take 25 bucks.
