Something followed me home today...

I have finally added a .308 battle rifle to my collection!

I was in Euless Guns & Ammo this afternoon, for completely unrelated reasons to this purchase, and I spied a Springfield Armory M1A Loaded on the shelf behind the clerk. This one had an OD Green synthetic stock (model MA9229) on it, but it is otherwise exactly the same as this one here with the black stock: http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=47.

Features include...
  • Barrel: 22", 6 groove, 1:11 RH Twist, Parkerized, National Match Medium Weight, Premium Air Gauged
  • Front Sight: National Match .062" Military Post
  • Rear Sight: GI Match Grade Non-Hooded Aperture .0520, Adjustable 1/2 MOA for windage and 1 MOA for elevation
  • Trigger: 2 Stage Military Trigger, Match Tuned, 4.5-5.0 lbs
My only complaint is that for the money, which was considerable, you would think they could give you more than just a single 10 round magazine.

I just ordered four 20 round Promag magazines from Midway, but I'm just itching to get out and shoot this thing! I've got a friend with a big deer lease that he says is crawling with hogs, and for my money, this is the ideal hog gun.

Anyway, I'm not nearly done acquiring guns, but this particular rifle, the M1A, has been one I have lusted after since I first saw the M14 in a news photograph when I was a kid. I thought it was the most beautiful military rifle ever made then, and I still do. I love my bolt rifles, and my ARs are the bomb, but the M1A is just plain one of the sexiest rifles ever designed.

I am a happy man tonight.

I'll tell y'all what... This rifle is proof that I married well. The price was $1,729.00 plus tax. I thought, "maybe I better call my wife and warn her that I'm bringing this thing home," so I did call her. She said, "OK, have fun."

You can't do any better than that.

If I tried that , this would be my wife's reaction.....

:iagree: with TAM

Except maybe my wife who comes along to the gun shop with me an says things like..."well if you are getting that rifle, I want this one next!".

I had my heart set on Henry lever action plinking 22 rifle. (a cowboy gun as she calls it) she wanted an AR15! I got the Henry but only after promising she can get the AR next! "rlol" I love that woman. :smilelol5:

Beautiful rifle. I have been wanting one of the scout squad M1a's but can't bring myself to spend that much at the current time. Saw one yesterday for $1,950. It looks like you got a good deal on the loaded model. Enjoy.

And nice shooting too!! You should be a happy man!! ;-)

That M1A has got some big boy punch to it, expecially the SOCOM 3 with 16 inch pipe. Wow! Wear your sunglasses if you set one off at nite. :coolgleamA:

BTW...you and I lust alike!

Maddest of propers to you, The Annoyed Man, I was lusting over self-same rifle, only with the wooden stock, just could not justify the expense. Still waffling on the subject. Thinking of getting a .308 bolt instead, and modding it up like the one you have. Please offer up a range report. According to the interweb, and we all know how reliable that is, the M1A can be picky with the ammo. Anything dispelling said subject would go a long way in the persuasion area involving me with buying a similar rifle. Enjoy that ever-so-sexy piece of artillery. Much of the deadly sin of Envy involved.
