Need a gunsmith in the Austin area...

Well my Remington 870 had a real problem a few days ago at the range. I fired a shell and the action locked up and would NOT open. I had to disassemble the gun to remove the spent shell and now the action bar lock is completely immobile. It won't move an inch. And the hammer is just kind of flopping around in there.
Can you guys recommend a good smith in the Austin area?

I have had a couple of guns worked on by the gunsmith's at McBrides and have been very happy with their work and prices.

I've been reasonably happy with the gunsmiths at McBrides, but I wouldn't go to them for any kind of major work. The only other option that I know of in Austin is
Hank Fleming. I wasn't too impressed with Hank's shop. I had a stock fitted to a rifle, and although you couldn't see it the finishing inside the stock was very poor and it took a LONG time (8 weeks) for them to get it done. When I dropped it off it was promised in 3 weeks.
I don't know of any other gunsmiths in Austin. Unfortunately we've got slim pickings.

I have had no complaints with the work done at McBrides, some on my guns even (they did quite a few for the state). As an alternative, you could make the run down to San Antonio and Dury's. I would trust them with anything. They do close early on Saturdays though, so it can be ahrd to get in to see them.
