thoughts: XD45compact vs. Sig Sp2022

Am sort-of looking for a higher capacity pistol that's lighter than my Officer 1911. These two pistols in question are two of the three I am considering. Although they are different calibers (.45 vs 9mm), in many ways, the guns are similar: size, weight, and capacity. The XD is a SA trigger, so every pull is consistant. The Sig is DA/SA; per their catalog, the DA is ~10lbs, SA ~4. Reviews seem to be very positive of the Sig trigger, both DA and SA modes. Price is comparable - within a few bucks of each other. The XD comes with the XD gear package; the 2022 comes with night sites and a laser.

Anyone have real--world experience with the Sig? How's it compare to the XD grip? I've shot the 9mm XD, not the .45, and really like it. I need to find a Sp2022 to hold and possibly shoot before ordering (I'm learning!).

I hope this is the right area to ask for reviews.
Thanks,
Q

don't have experience with either but i would recommend shooting the XD 45 too before you make a decision cause shooting 9mm and a 45 is totally different. it's even worst when you are dealing with the sub compact models.

The 2022 is one of the finest handguns on the market. I really feel it is the best pistol Sig produces...and its only 500.00 NEW!

I love my XD45 in compact 4 inch barrel. Not getting into what's better argumant. For me I would take the 45 cal over the 9 mm . The xd holds alot of 45 rounds. Plus if you use a spare clip you have over 25 rounds. How many do you need? The gun shoots great and have not had a failure yet shooting 5 different kinds of ammo including plus P.

Got to hold a 2022 this weekend. My goodness! That is one big grip and backstrap-to-trigger reach. Takes big hands to run that gun... Looks like I'm back on the hunt for an XD45c.

Thanks, all...

Have you ever held a Double stack .45? Not exactly the thinnest grip out there. Here is my humble opinion. Springfield makes a great gun. I do not own an XD but have shot several and they're super. I personally think the Sig fits in my hand better and to be honest, I think the Sig Pro sp2022 is the most under rated 9mm on the market. People look at it as the red headed step child because it's a polymer Sig. I shot mine yesterday and everytime I do, I remind myself of how much fun it is. Mine is a german model. BTW there are two differnt grips for the Sp2022. The slim grips has a lanyard loop at the bottom. Not sure which were on the gun you handled. Having said that it's PBJ time. :anamatedbanana

I agree. My SP2022 is a joy to shoot and I don't have large hands. SA/DA with a decocker beats a SAO in my book.
I just bought a small backstrap for mine . Big plus not having the lanyard loop. That thing hurts. Doesn't look much smaller but we'll see.
Also, you can pick up extra 15 round mags from top gun supply for about $36.

I have held & shot a 2022. Large grip eval below is true.
I own the 45XD. Grip will be much closer to the feel of your 1911. That is why I like it. Trigger reach will be very acceptable if you like the 1911.

Smaller grips are available for the 2022, we put them on my wife's 2022 and it fits her hands perfectly. Comparing the 2022 and the XD are really not the same, they both have their own merits. I am personally more of a Sig guy although I would never knock the Springfields as they are good guns as well..... If you can shoot both of them and make your choice on how they feel and shoot in your hands.

I think the SIG 2022 is one of the most often overlooked 9mm's on the market today. They are truly great guns and the price you can pick one up for is just incredible right now. You won't be disappointed if you pick one up.
