Once again, I learned something new from one of my students this week. 17 YO had a new Weatherby '06 with 3 X 9 scope that needed tweakin. In the course of doing so, a buddy with him said he had got some pretty good photos of deer by cranking the scope up to 9X and putting his cell phone camera up it. Leave it to the teenagers to make the most of the technologies.

Anybuddy else ever tried this?

Tried that with a 35mm SLR, but camera lens aperture was the wrong size for the exit pupil, all I got was funny looking dots. Never tried it with a digital camera.

I've done it with my digital video camera. It works! I was thinking that I could actually fire the weapon that way, whilst the cross-hairs were on a hog I was aiming at, but then realized the recoil would probably break my camera. I was shooting a 30-06 at the time. Sitting in a stand filming the hogs, and then decided to see if it would work through the scope. Yeppers.

The Brits used to have a half-silvered mirror device called an "instructor sighting aid", or somesuch. It mounted behind the rear sight and let an instructor beside the student see the sight picture. It would be fun to have something like that.
